Hey Sunshine, I hope you enjoyed reading our first organic and natural beauty brand spotlight last week featuring Antipodes + my very first beauty vlog! We're on a mission here to help you make informed choices when it comes to making your important buying decisions on beauty products. We believe there're way too many socially responsible boutique brands that don't get their voice heard, because they're drowned in the sea of muti-billion dollar advertising industry where big brands dominate every single billboard and TV commercial. Fear not, my darlings. We're here to empower you to find alternatives with our green beauty product review from brands around the globe! This week our spotlight is on this US-based boutique brand Antonym Cosmetics that is founded by a French born makeup artist Valarie, who believes natural make up can make you looking stunning as well as being skin-friendly. Follow along and check out what our verdicts are testing some of their make up brushes and products from its range:
♥ Why are they green:
- Ecocert Certified Makeup with organic ingredients (Note: Ecocert certifies that a brand's products use natural and/or organic ingredients and that a company practices strict standards of quality control to ensure environmentally respectful manufacturing, packaging and storage. Read more here.)
- Vegan certified brushes: no animal testing and do not contain any animal products.
- All compacts and brush handles are made with bamboo which is a natural and sustainable material.
- Support and donate to organisations that promote ecological awareness.
♥ Products Tested & My Verdict:
1. Noisette eye shadow quattro - certified organicI have to say their bamboo compact has caught my eyes with its eco luxe vibe. I knew I was in for a treat. But first of all, ingredients check! It's clearly labelled as having over 99% of total ingredients from natural origin, while 12% are derived from organic farming. It contains wheat starch and corn starch (both from organic farming), as well as talc, mic and silica which are commonly used in mineral makeup. All sounds pretty green to me and I'm happy to put them on my skin with the Eco Cert seal on their packaging giving me that peace of mind.
This quattro comes with four earthy hues which is perfect for achieving the natural 'no make up' make up look, or that 'I've just been sun-kissed' vibe! I have medium skin tone and I knew immediately these eyeshadow shades will be my BFFs for everyday use: Pale Gold, Copper, P1 Brown (lighter) and P2 Brown (darker). Rather than using them all as eyeshadows, I gave myself the challenge to create a complete eye makeup look with this compact. I started with the dark brown shade as the eyebrow powder applying it with an angle brush. Then I lined the inner corners of my eyes with Pale Gold shades, as well as pressing it lightly on my brow bones as highlight. Copper shades went on my eyelids and followed by light brown shade as upper and lower eyeliner with a eyeliner brush. Viola - my eye make up done with using just one compact under five minutes!
Their colours are intense and highly-pigmented. There is not much discrepancies at all with the colours that you see and how it looks on your face. It gives a pearly, subtle shine and carries a smooth consistency making it glides on my eyelids like butter!
The hall of fame for this year's travel beauty essentials will have to go to this Antonym eyeshadow quattro compact. Four shades that are very practical for adding a bit of 'golden goddess' glow packed with a small brush all in a durable yet lightweight compact - I can't think of a reason to not have it in my carry-on travel beauty pouch!
2. Lipstick pencil (koral & naturalle shade) - certified naturalThese lip colours are 100%natural with over 14% of its ingredients derived from organic farming. Lead and chemical-laden preservatives on your martini glass? Yikes! Not with these certified organic lip pencil.
Lip pencils are great as you don't even need lipstick brush - I started with lining my lips with these and then filling in the colours - easy as peas! The only little thing I dislike about their lip pencils is that you need a sharpener- I've lost way too many.
Both shades are the most flattering, polished neutral colours for anyone. They're smooth and silky, giving my pout a glossy sheen finish with soft colour from mineral based pigments. And did I say it stays for a few good hours while still looking fresh? Thanks to its mositurising power packed with sunflower oil and shea butter, I wear mine without lip balm underneath and it doesn't give me dry lines - WINNING! These are definitely products that I will consider re-purchasing.
3. Eye pencil noir - certified natural /waterproofWhile we're just talking about losing way too many pencil sharpeners in our beauty cabinets, here comes the cleverest design from Antonym with their eye pencil noir - the small sharpener is a snug fit on its tail! So here it is, problem solved, never lose any sharpener anymore and it's so considerate for travellers. I think it deserves to score 10 out of 10 just for the smart design.
I tried out this eye pencil and was fairly impressed with how easy it is to draw a fine and smooth line with its true black shade. Same as their lip colours, I love how this eye pencil is also 100% natural.
4. Makeup Brush: Kabuki brush, Flat head cream eye shadow brush & Covered lip brushOne thing that set Antonym apart from other makeup brands is how thoughtful they are with their product design and how practical the products themselves are as I've already mentioned briefly. No doubt it's because their founder Valerie is an makeup artist and of course she understands what captures a beauty junkie's heart! I tested out three of their makeup brush from their range of over 20. The kabuki brush that arrived in a small luxurious leather pouch got me squealing with excitement. A small pouch that keeps your precious brush clean and dust-free, as well as for carrying on your journey - seriously, where have you been all my life? It comes with an eco-sustainable bamboo handle of just the right size for gripping. The brush feels very very soft and fluffy. It feels great to know that their brushes are all synthetic and contains no animal products.
With their lip brush and eyeshadow brush, they feel equally silky and soft. I've washed them all twice now and they still keep their fluffiness which won some major points with me! The lip brush is perfect for precisely drawing a lip line with its pointy head. I think these brushes would last for a long time in your makeup case so they definitely worth the investment.
