An All-White Splendid Affair: Diner En Blanc Brisbane 2013

From my obsession with Louboutin stilettos, vintage Chanel to Ladurée macaron, I’m a self proclaimed Francophile. When I first came across these photos from Diner en Blanc Paris last year that took place at the grand Notre Dame, that moment was simply wow-inducing!

Diner an Blanc, an exclusive all white pop-up picnic event that’s started in Paris 25 years ago, is a fashionista affair as much as an epicurean one. The buzzword for any Diner en Blanc event worldwide is ‘French elegance’: from candle chandeliers to fine china, silver cutlery and crystal vase, all guests are encouraged to bring the most lavish decor from their homes and dress elegantly in white attire to get into the spirit of the night. These glamorous picnic flash mob brings with them a little slice of Paris and spread the French elegant affair to each corner of the world where this takes place, which takes months to organize yet the whole spectacle unfolds and wraps up all within a few hours. I know this would be a night that makes my heart sing!

I was absolutely thrilled to find out that Brisbane would play host to this splendid affair for the second time, after its successful debut at the South Bank Parklands last year. The Brisbane chapter is hosted by two lovely ladies Amy and Brooke, who are both Urban Designers and passionate about revitalizing public spaces. I’ve had the chance to talk to the bubbly duo (you can read our interviews here and here) which built up the excitement for my first time attendance of the event!

The mystery started to unfolded at around 5:30pm on 31st August, when myself, my dear blogger friend Daniel behind ThatStreetGuy, along with thousands of Brisbane revelers descended on Northshore Riverside Park in the suburb of Hamilton. The venue wasn’t as public or of ‘landmark’ status as South Bank Parklands last year, yet the spectacle of 2,500 cheerful party-goers , one thousand plus picnic tables covered in immaculate white tablecloth, perfectly set up with flickering candlelight is simply magical, a little bit beyond what words can describe.

Love the creepiness in this shot when everyone was staring at the melting plastic around the candles when they were about to burst into a ball of flames!

We spotted a miniature Wheel of Brisbane carried all the way from South Bank Parklands!

Sparkler time! The night’s most magical moment when 2,500 diners waved their sparkles in the air.

So tell me Dear Reader, have you attended any Diner en Blanc? Where would be the most splendid, most magical location for Diner en Blanc?

Love,

Juliet
