An Afternoon at Attington Park, Shropshire

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

A few weeks ago in the all too infrequent gorgeous late autumnal sunshine we headed across for a brisk stroll around the lovely Attington Park in Shropshire. We didn’t have time to look in the grand house it’s a beauty from the outside.

Attington Park has some really stunning grounds encompassing a deer park, walled garden and much more. Theres several walks around the grounds between about 1mile and 6 miles, all really well documented on the welcome map. Aren’t those autumn reds and golds just so beautiful?

Despite it being the start of winter, it was good to see a smattering of color in the gardens with some spectacular flowers and beds.

The walled garden was a great space, with a central well and rows and rows of vegetables and fruit. Much of these were a little barren with it being autumn/winter but I was amazed to see so much still flourishing. There was marrow and squash galore, celeriac and other root vegetables, kale, cabbages, and the ends of the tomatoes and peas. The size of the savoy cabbages and kale plants was fantastic!

Another stunning sight was their huge orchard. They grow over 20 different types of apples. Picking was in full flow by the gardening staff and their haul was pretty impressive.

They also keep their own bees!

After looking round all the gardens we headed off for a walk. We did about 3 miles, skirting round the edge of the Deer Park and along the River before the sun started to set between the trees and we had to leave. We had a quick peek in the shop before we left and picked up a few Christmas decorations, national trust preserves and some veg straight from the garden.

With plenty to do from young to old I really liked this National Trust Property  and would head back in a flash

Disclosure: We went to Attingham Park off our own backs, paid for our entrance and everything!
