Alcatel has always been known for making solid, affordable phones, but a few months back, the company decided that it was time for a change and unveiled the OneTouch Hero – a 6in phablet with a Full HD display (1920 x 1080) and a couple of other tricks up its sleeve.
Thanks to its curved back and decent thickness (8.5mm), the Hero is actually easy on the hands. In terms of design, the OneTouch Hero comes with two unique covers – the MagicFlip cover and the E-Ink cover. The MagicFlip cover displays the time, notification icons (e.g. missed calls, new e-mail) and equalizer bars that respond to music thanks to the LEDs embedded on the outside of the cover. If you flip it over, it will act as a wireless charging case for your Hero. The other case has a full E-Ink display built into it, which lets you read books, magazines and web pages (acting kind of like an ebook reader) while saving battery life. The Hero also comes equipped with a Stylus pen, a wireless charger and a Bluetooth headset called the Sidekick (receives calls, controls music playback and displays notifications). The company is experimenting with a Pico Projector stand, which lets you display images on a 70in projected screen.
One of the Hero’s best features has to be the split-screen option.
Like we’ve already mentioned, the Hero boasts a Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution that leaves nothing to be desired. The colours are vivid and the picture is sharp and bright.
The Hero runs on Android 4.4 Jelly Bean and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. You can have either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage (depending on the fact whether the phone has one or two SIM slots), which you can expand, thanks to a microSD slot (you can add up to 32GB). The phone has a decent 13-megapixel camera with a LED flash on the back that shoots 1080 videos. Underneath it all is a 3,400mAh battery, which is a pretty good size for the OneTouch Hero. One particular feature that stands out has to be the split-screen option, which allows you to multitask and use some apps simultaneously.
The Alcatel OneTouch Hero doesn’t have LTE, but it does have quad-band GSM, dual-band 3G connectivity, dual-band WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi Direct and A-GPS. It can also become a hotspot if you need one.
The release date and pricing have not been confirmed yet, but we’ve heard that we should expect the Hero somewhere during this month.
