We motored through London to get to the boat that would take us down the Thames to a new destination: Greenwich. I followed my cousin’s London-seasoned legs, the legs of someone who had been living there for months and was sufficiently confident with the city to be irritated with the vast number of tourists to ugly-face photobomb their pictures whilst walking. Yes, I was a tourist too, but we weren’t dawdling. We were on a mission.
We opted to travel via Thames Clipper rather than City Cruise for slightly more flexible departures and to save a bit of dough. There are many ways to get to Greenwich, and I would definitely recommend taking a boat! It was a fantastic way to glimpse the city in a new way and experience the world-famous river (and even have a bit of it splashed on your face).
I’ve always been a bit of a strange bird when it comes to weather. While some people complain and whinge about cloudy, spitty days, I bask and relish in them. It’s as if I were made for this part of the world. Well, actually, I kind of was, considering my dominant Irish heritage. It’s no wonder I get along so well with London and days like these.
Once we arrived, our M.O. was simple: explore.
Before long, we found ourselves at the Greenwich Market, a wonderful magical land stocked full to the brim with food and antiques. Yep, I pretty much lost my marbles in there.
It took us 0.5 seconds to find the dumplings.
We gobbled them up as quickly as we found them (and I had a mini funeral in my head for the one I dropped on the floor, dumpling blasphemy!).
Antiques!
I scrummaged around and bought myself a deliciously cute pair of shoes from Shoe Embassy, and this pin that I’ve already tacked onto my white coat for clinic in third year. For those of you who are just joining us, I will be in third year optometry school come fall 2015. My cousin Natalie and I split the Tweedle brothers; she took Dee, and I intentionally took Dum – as a reminder to stay humble and that I am here to learn!
From the market, we wandered. Found more food and beer. Stuffed ourselves. Wandered.
We made our way up the hill toward the Royal Observatory of Greenwich, and on the way, stopped to horse around at the Maritime Museum where there is a huge ship in a bottle outside. So cool.
The view is nice from the top of the hill, and I found Greenwich to be a peaceful place, respite from the hustle of London. It was a perfect day trip, relaxing, fun and rejuvenating all at once.
I don’t remember how much a ticket into this museum was, but it was gobs of money just to stand one foot on each side of the meridian line. Plus, we were due back to catch our ferry into London, so after a few quick snaps, we were soon making our way down the hill.
Sorry to disappoint you… that’s not the ferry.

Ah, just stretching out and cracking my metaphorical blogging knuckles. Pardon the *ahem* hiatus, but we bloggers have all been there at one time or another. I don’t believe in excuses, so I won’t give any, although I do have my reasons.
