At the end of the bright white sands of Bohol’s Alona Beach, lies a true piece of paradise that takes the form of The Amorita. Translated into ‘My Little Darling’, this boutique luxury resort was definitely one of the highlights of my stay in The Philippines. When it comes to luxury, its always the little things that count. Homebaked cookies, a handwritted welcome note and turned down bed instantly made me feel right at home in my room which was located in the newly opened resort wing.Staying alone, I must admit I felt quite small as I explored my spacious suite. I was particularly excited by the bathroom which included a waterfall shower, spa bath and gorgeous twin vanity. If this isn’t luxurious enough for you, you can always upgrade to a villa which comes complete with your own private plunge pool, patio, and the option to enjoy a private dining experience.Dinner is served at the resort’s restaurant ‘The Saffron Lounge’ where you can choose from indulging at the gourmet buffet or savouring the Boholano heritage cuisine, a la carte.Whatever you do, you musn’t miss dessert – I opted for a tiramisu however theres something to satisfy every sweet tooth. Whilst dining I couldn’t stop admiring the intricate, white wicker furniture that surrounded me. Modern with Europeon elegance, I was impressed to hear that they were designed and made locally in Bohol and perfectly complemented the relaxed, elegant atmosphere. After my last mouthful of heavenly dessert I wandered through the lit winding paths of the resort back to the spacious retreat that awaited, diving into the enormous bed that had been calling me since setting foot in my room. Enshrouded by the crisp white cotton sheets and pillows, I fell asleep listening to the roar of the ocean, excited to explore more the next morning.Breakfast is served alfresco of course, overlooking the ocean so you can soak in the sunshine and savour all of the delicious goodies on offer.I quickly settled into the relaxed Filipino way of life and the most pressing matter became choosing which infinity pool to sunbathe alongside of. Heres my advice; spend the morning reading on the sunbeds overlooking Alona Beach and then relocate after lunch (when it becomes socially acceptable to have your first cocktail) and try a chili mojito by the restaurant pool.If its adventure you seek, Bohol is the island to visit and activities are easy to access from Amorita. Whilst it was hard to drag myself off the sunbeds, we spent time paddle boarding, firefly spotting and exploring the world famous Chocolate Mountains. Amorita also has its own in house dive center if you fancy yourself an underwater explorer!Whether you spend your time at Amorita lounging in the sunshine or head off to explore Bohol, promise me you’ll grab your espadrilles and fit in time for a wander down Alona Beach. The friendly staff and idealic surroundings all contributed to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Amorita, reflective of The Philippines in general. If the Philippines makes it into your holiday schedule, ensure that Bohol is on the itinerary and you get acquainted with its ‘Little Darling’, Amorita.
