5 Awesome Things To Do During Your UK Holiday

By Heather Hahn @HeatherHahnn

The UK may just be a small collection of islands, but there is a surprising amount to keep you occupied!

There’s so much green countryside, perfect for long, adventurous hikes. Its towns and cities are also packed full to the brim with culture and history; your itinerary might end up becoming longer than you expected! So what should you make sure you do while in the UK?

Here are five of the best options.

Theme Parks

Want to tick off some scary roller coasters from your bucket list? Then the UK is the best destination for you! There are various theme parks dotted around the country, so you will never be too far from thrills and spills. If you are in the north-west of England, you’ll be close to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. You can find out more information about it here: blackpoolpleasurebeach.com. Staying in the south? You can easily get to Thorpe Park in Surrey, not too far from London.

London

I can’t write a post about Britain and not mention London! There is an immense amount of attractions, sights and landmarks to keep you busy in the capital. Take a ride on the London Eye or see if the Queen is at home in Buckingham Palace. You could also take a river boat trip up the Thames. Don’t forget about the Tate art gallery. It houses some of Britain’s best art collections. For more travel tips for London, check the official tourist website: visitlondon.com

Scotland

If you have the time during your UK trip, a visit to Scotland is well worth it. It offers some bracing scenery, perfect for your holiday pictures! While you are there, don’t forget to sample the cuisine. Haggis, mashed potatoes and turnips make up the traditional dish, and whisky is the nation’s favorite drink. Stop off for a couple of nights in Edinburgh to see the castle and to take a walk up Arthur’s Seat.

Beaches

The UK coastline is lined with beaches. Some are pebbly while others are very sandy. So you can always find a beach to fit your needs. Kids will love to play and build sandcastles on the sandy strips, and you can go rock pooling on pebbly beaches. In seaside towns, you’ll often find amusement arcades that are full of penny slot machines and one-arm bandits. You could come home with lots of prizes!

Try The Food

Britain has a great reputation for food – there’s no wonder why! Cuisine across the British Isles is very diverse and you will find a variety of dishes and specialities to suit every taste. One of the most traditional meals is fish and chips. It’s very popular at the seaside! If you are in Britain on a Sunday, try and find a cozy pub that is serving an authentic Sunday roast. The portions will be so big; you may not need to eat anything else all day!

I’ve no doubt this post will have whetted your appetite for a British vacation. Don’t forget to send me a postcard from your trip!
