14 weeks pregnant

How far along? 14 Weeks began Saturday, 9/27/14 – Welcome to The Second Trimester!

How big is baby? The baby is getting bigger! At this point, (s)he’s the size of a lemon, which is 3.4 inches and 1.5 ounces! That’s double what (s)he was last week! (S)he’s able to wiggle his/her toes, and suck his/her thumb! The baby’s kidneys are making urine, and the liver and spleen are doing their jobs now too.

Weight Gain: +1 lb this week, +8 lb total

Body & Changes: Things are looking up! Hip, hip! Hooray! But let me just let you in on a little secret. When I say that I feel so much better, I mean it, but when compared to my non-pregnant self, I feel weird, and uncomfortable. I think the past three months have trained me into getting used to the weirdness of pregnancy. I still wake up exhausted, and queasy. I guess I’ve just gotten used to it.

I still hate tight waistbands, or even semi-tight waistbands around my belly. It’s worse when sitting, so I’m doing my best to avoid jeans or anything tight, and just stick to leggings and sweats. I’m so in love with the maternity leggings my mom scooped up for me from A Pea in The Pod, and I placed an order on Amazon for two more pairs of leggings that are super stretchy – I can’t wait for those to arrive, but unfortunately, my estimated delivery date is from the start of October to the middle of November. I mean, c’mon guys… That’s a really huge window!!! Anyway, I can’t wait for those to show up.

My little bump is getting a lot bigger, but it’s also very weird in how one day it’ll be a lot bigger than it’ll be the next. Also, the mornings are so vastly different from the afternoons and from the evenings. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger throughout the day! I still look like I raided the donut store without shame, and frankly, I cannot wait until my bump looks more, well, bump-like.

My bras are no longer fitting me, and are actually extremely painful to wear, so I’ve had to resort to only wearing the sports variety. While not exactly attractive under all of my clothes, they do the trick, and are wildly more comfortable than anything else.

I’m ravenous. Truly ravenous. I am hungry always. All the time. My appetite cannot be satisfied, and it’s really quite unnerving. But what stinks about THAT is the emergence of a sour stomach which comes with eating. Ugh.

I also forget everything, including adding the forgetfulness to this list of things that have changed in my body.

Exercise: In addition to occasional swimming, I have added in some prenatal yoga that I’ve found on YouTube. I love it. Between the breathing and the stretching, the yoga workouts that I’ve done have allowed me to relax, and I mean really and truly relax, if even for 10 minutes.

Clothes: I’m still wearing pre-pregnancy clothing, but I’m more comfortable in elastic or soft waistbands. I find myself in sweats, athletic shorts or leggings most often, and flowey tee-shirts and tanks. I do love my new maternity shirts though, and have gotten some good wear!

What I’ve been eating: Cravings: KFC Biscuits. I want ALL THE BISCUITS… Sushi (dang it), spaghetti, vanilla ice cream, gushers and other fruit snacks. Aversions: the smell of coffee, baked chicken, any fish with exception, once again, to Subway’s tuna fish salad. That’s good stuff, you guys.

I’ve been on a real starchy kick these days. Bagels, pizza, pastas, chips, ice cream, donuts, breakfast tacos… As you can see, there’s really no balance to my diet, and for that I feel weird. Not weird… I feel bad for eating so bad, so I’m forcing myself to shove down mangoes, apples, and other “good for you” foods, but sometimes, I’m like screw it, pass the sour cream and onion chips. Mmm… that sounds good…

Metromint Peppermint Water has also found its way into my life, and it’s OUT OF CONTROL. Not only does the water do its hydrating duty, but it also helps to calm the queasies! It’s delicious, light and interesting, and man… I love that stuff. I wish I had some right now, but I downed the last 6 I had in only 2 days.

Strangely, spicy food has been hitting me harder, and even mild foods are sometimes just TOO spicy for this former Sriracha guzzling gal.

Any Movement? None so far, but I can’t wait!

Sleep: Ehhh… My sleep is frequently disturbed by trips to the bathroom. I’m talking 3-5 times a night I’m woken up by my instant bladder saying “EMPTY ME. PRONTO, WOMAN.” I’m also woken up often to drink water, because I feel super dehydrated. Can’t win, can ya?

Emotions: Leveling out a bit, but randomly I will break into a tear-fest unlike the previous tear-fests, and it’ll be over absolutely nothing. Pa-thet-ic. I mean, check out this Cheerio’s commercial, and try not to explode in sobs. I dare you.

Oh wait… you can do it? Oh… Well, look at you… And your stability.

Purchases: My husband and I have made none yet. My mom’s made some on the clothing front for me (5 shrits and a pair of leggings), and for those items, I am forever grateful.

What I miss: Having energy. I really miss that… Also, I miss sushi. I didn’t even realize I was craving sushi until I sat down to write this, and realized, I really want sushi, and I want sushi baaaaad. Dang it again. Well, there’s always the cooked variety to look forward to, right?

What I’m looking forward to: Finding out whether we’re going to be having a boy or a girl. We took the spectrum blood test 4 Mondays ago, which isolates out the baby’s DNA, and using his/her chromosomes, they’ll be able to definitively tell whether it’s a girl or a boy! Science, man. Science. The results are said to take between 4 and 6 weeks, so it should be any time now that we know!

I’m also looking forward to the promised bursts of energy that comes with the second trimester. I have yet to feel any relief from this extreme fatigue, but I’m hoping that release is on its way. Please be on your way, relief? Please?

And like I have mentioned before, I can’t wait for that bump to get more “pregnant looking.”

Milestones: Exiting the first trimester and entering the second!! Very exciting stuff. I’ve just found that there’s so much relief that comes with leaving the first trimester intact. We also found out the gender!!!! SO MUCH MORE ON THIS NEXT POST! I’m so excited…
