Turkey Burger Deluxe {high Protein, Low Carb}

By Fitfulfocus @fitfulfocus

Burgers. What can I say about them except, “YUM!” The best kind of burgers are, hands down, homemade ones. They’re juicy without the grease, and simply put, they’re just plain yummy! This Turkey Burger Deluxe is no exception:

This is the best turkey burger I’ve ever had. As a matter of fact, I’ve never had a turkey burger from a restaurant that I enjoyed. Maybe I just haven’t been to a good turkey burger joint (I was a vegetarian for 2 years so that’s not out of the question), but this bad boy is delicious.

When I make burgers at home, I can control the size, seasoning, level of cookage (yep – that is now a word – you’re welcome Merriam Webster), and I can add scrumdiddlyumptious toppings like tomatoes, homemade guac, and turkey bacon hitherto turning the Joe Shmoe Turkey Burger into the Turkey Burger Deluxe!

This burger is so good, it doesn’t even need a bun! Just throw it in between two crunchy Romaine lettuce leaves and you’re good to go, you healthy thing you.

WARNING: You will need many a napkin during the consumption phase.

Stop, it's burger time! I'm drooling over this #protein rich, #lowcarb, Turkey Burger Deluxe!

Serves 4 Write a review Save Recipe Print For the patty
  1. 20 oz lean ground turkey
  2. 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  3. chipotle powder
  4. salt and pepper
For the guacamole
  1. 2 avocados
  2. 1 tsp lemon juice
  3. 1 clove garlic, crushed
  4. salt to taste
  5. optional: red pepper flakes
Additional Ingredients
  1. 4 slices uncured turkey bacon
  2. 1 beefsteak tomato, sliced
  3. 8 Romaine lettuce leaves
  4. optional: ketchup and mustard
Instructions
  1. Spray a large skillet with non-stick spray and place over medium-high heat.
  2. Sprinkle lean ground turkey with chipotle powder, garlic, salt and pepper.
  3. Mix well with your hands and mold into one big ball.
  4. Divide the ball into four equal balls and flatten into patties.
  5. Place patties on heated skillet and cook about 4 minutes per side or until cooked through.
  6. When burgers are finished, set aside to cool a bit while you make your bacon according to package instructions. (I simple placed the bacon strips in the same pan the burgers were in and cooked to my desired level of crispiness).
For the guacamole
  1. Scoop avocado out of the skins and place in a medium bowl. Mash well with a fork.
  2. Stir in lemon juice and spices.
To assemble
  1. Place a lettuce leaf on a plate. Top with burger patty, 1/4 of the tomato slices, 1/4 of the guac, and 1 slice of bacon. Top with another lettuce leaf and enjoy the juicy mess!
