The Disney Princess Half Marathon seems like ages ago, and yet I remember it like it was yesterday. This race was such a blast, as all Disney races are, but this one was particularly fun because I got to run it with two of my best running friends! We ran, we took pictures, and we earned two medals (one for the half and one for completing the Glass Slipper Challenge). If you missed 'em, here are the 5K and 10K recaps.
Without future ado, I bring you the last installment in my Disney Princess race series: the half marathon!
10K Day (aka, part 1 of the Glass Slipper Challenge).
Another early wake up call had us up and ready to leave the house by 4:15am. Once again, getting to the race was a breeze.
Jess and I met up with Angela, and we made our way to the corrals. For some reason, there was a TON of crowding getting to the corrals - way more than I ever remember there being for marathon weekend. Usually, later corrals split from early corrals, but this year it seemed like everyone was going to the same place. Because of this, the race had a slightly delayed start. Hopefully they'll go back to the way the usually organize corrals next year.
Anywho, we made it and soon enough we were on our way!
The first five miles are pretty much all highway and back roads, but we entertained ourselves with good conversation and character stops!
We ran into Malificent and the evil Queen from Snow White, and all of the sudden, we were in the Magic Kingdom!
There was no lack of character stops there. We stood in a short line for The Queen of Hearts since I was dressed as Alice, and were surprised the line for The Beast wasn't too long seeing as how the whole weekend was Beauty and the Beast-themed. We also saw Woody in Adventure land (not pictured below).
Right before leaving the park around mile 6, we saw Snow White and Cinderella. Princesses for the win!
Then it was back out on the highway for a while. We decided to switch to run/walk to save energy for the parks later, and of course, we made a few more character stops:
One of the toughest parts of the course is just before mile 11. There's a fairly long incline that wouldn't be too bad except for the fact that the whole hill is slanted. It's tough when your ankles and hips aren't level. We were all feeling it.
We were able to power up the hill thanks in part to the Army man that always stands there yelling at you motivating you to make it up.
After that hill, it was all fun and magic as we headed into Epcot.
We made one final character stop for Princess Daisy, and then it was all running to the finish line!
We did the cliché thing and held hands across the finish line, but we couldn't find the picture in our photo gallery. We did, however, get these gems:
We were all smiles in the finishers' shoot, especially after getting out medals. The half marathon medal is beautiful, and the Glass Slipper Challenge medal spins. How fun is that?!
Jess and I headed back to the house for quick showers and to take pictures with all of our medals...
...and then it was time for Epcot! We bee-lined it to the Frozen Ride. You guys, it was amazing!!!
We also hit up Soarin', but most of our time was spent eating (lunch at Via Napoli was amazing), drinking and looking at all the pretty topiaries.
I was sad to leave, but I know I'll be back soon!
Which Character from the half is your favorite?
Anyone else been on the Frozen ride yet?
