I’m always hoping they will make a zero calorie soda that I can actually drink. I’m a hard core “Pepsi only” fan which basically means I don’t drink soda because of my preference. Every now and again if I want a reward for a good workout or a healthy week, I might sneak a Pepsi, but otherwise, I don’t drink soda at all.
Because I really don’t care for the taste of most zero calorie sodas, it makes me very uneasy and skeptical of any zero calorie, zero sugar, and caffeine free sodas – especially those that are “naturally sweetened.” My thinking is that they would probably taste like the can they come in or maybe like seltzer water or something – a soda I would pour right down the drain.
So then I saw Zevia zero calorie soda. It comes in several flavors including classic cola. and since I wanted to try the one I thought most resembled my favorite soda, I grabbed it. I learned that Zevia sodas are naturally sweetened with Stevia and Monk fruit extracts with no artificial flavors, calories, sugars, or caffeine. Sounds too good to be true, right?
When I first went to the local grocery store, they only had a couple of flavors, so I grabbed ginger ale and lemon lime twist thinking they were “safe” flavors. They were actually very good tasting, and I could hardly tell they were zero calorie sodas that were naturally flavored. Those six-packs didn’t last long in our house!
Later, when I returned to the same grocery store, I was surprised to see they had an end cap filled with all the other different flavors! The product must be taking off in my town! I can’t wait to try some of the other flavors – I’ll save these sodas for my future rewards and I’ll be enjoying soda without the calories of the other sodas out there.
