Megan Abbott isn’t a new author either, I’ve read a couple of her others books (The End of Everything and Dare Me) and they were awesome, and You Will Know Me doesn’t disappoint!
The story: Katie Knox and her husband Eric have made their daughter Devon the center of their world. Talented, determined, a rising gymnastics star and Olympic hopeful, Devon is the focus of her parents’ lives. There is nothing they wouldn’t do for her and there are no limits. When a young man is killed in a car accident, things begin to unravel and suddenly everything is at risk. Secrets are revealed among the girls, parents and coaches and emotions are flying.
Katie tries to hold her family together while also finding herself irresistibly drawn to the crime itself. What she uncovers–about her daughter’s fears, her own marriage, and herself–forces Katie to consider whether there’s any price she isn’t willing to pay to achieve Devon’s dream.
Never having a daughter, nor a gymnast, I can’t attest to whether or not the details of the story are accurate, but they sure felt like something I might have seen on a news channel or Olympic interview show. The plot moved like a rollercoaster and it shared the sacrifices parents make for their children’s futures, and the drive and force of ambition.
This book was one of those page turners – I just wanted to know what was next. Some of the twists were expected, but some of them caught me off guard and were unexpected, which I really loved! Megan Abbott is one of those writers who just keeps coming out with great stories with great characters and great plots and I can’t wait to read her next book while this one hasn’t even been published! Mark your calendar to pick up this book when it’s released on July 26!!
