I have decided to include Edie Sedgwick in my 'Women Who Inspire' series, not because she is/was a fashion icon, but because she is a perfect example of the dangers of succumbing to peer pressure and following the crowd.
When I first watched the Andy Warhol 'screen test' (shown above) of Edie Sedgwick when I was seventeen, I saw a girl who had it all; money, fame, popularity, beauty, and style. She was an inspiration to me for all the wrong reasons, mainly due to her glamorous lifestyle and mannerisms whether good or bad. Now when I watch this film in my early twenties all I see is her naivety.
If you would like to see a more accurate recollection of Edie Sedgwick's life, I would recommend watching the film 'Ciao Manhattan' (which Edie actually starred in) instead of the more recent film 'Factory Girl' with Sienna Miller. Ciao Manhattan gives you a progressive and very 'matter of fact' portrayal of her life juxtaposed with her decent into insanity, drug abuse, and eventual death rather than simply focusing on her relationship with Andy Warhol and her star quality.
