That is the question, isn’t it ladies?
Though, I’m afraid it’s up to his mates – they’re the ones that make all of his big life decisions after all. Oh, and they’re totally capable too – because they definitely always have his best interests at heart. Round the clock. From AM to PM.
In case you couldn’t tell, I’m being sarcastic – and in case you couldn’t tell from that - I was being facetious.
It’s becoming a bit of a trend you see.
Boys enlisting the help of their mates to decide whether or not (God forbid) a girl that he’s been seeing for month deserves a ‘label’ of some shape or form – just so she knows where she stands.
Pageing Major Tom to ground control! The boys only care whether or not their drinking buddy will still show up on a Saturday night with a pack of six cold ones.
This of course, doesn’t leave much hope for the poor girl that’s put months worth of time and effort into a relationship that despite what he said to the contrary, was never going to go anywhere. Maybe the boys don’t think she’s good enough, maybe they think he can do better? And that’s what’s important, isn’t it? (Great, I’m beginning to speak fluent sarcasm now.)
I remember my Grandmother talking about a time when men would fight over females. Men were proud to have a date – and had a one-up on their mates – and they longed for the love of a good woman. These days, men act as though having a girlfriend is the equivalent to having a leg in 10 kilo shackles – except the shackles are also bolted to a concrete slab. They’re just too cool to admit they want the love of a good woman, too.
It’s all a bit She’s All That - isn’t it?
Boys are so swayed by what the guys they hang around think, that they can’t recognize a good thing when they see it, let alone make her feel special enough to want to stick around. The shit thing is, the guy is the one that lucks out, whether or not he realises straight away. All because his mates might not approve of the girl he may have fallen for. What a load. Honestly fellas, you’re not far off the apes if you think that’s appropriate behavior. At least the apes aren’t afraid to choose a partner and stick with them.
Worryingly, this ‘single life for life’ mindset is catching, with guys and girls choosing to snub many prospective partners in favour of staying free and single and ready to mingle.
Don’t get me wrong – that’s a fine mindset to have. Some of my most fun years were when I was single and going out with my girlfriends – and if that’s what you want, then you should just go for it.
The important thing is to make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. Not just because you don’t want to cop a few weeks’ worth of boy banter from your buddies.

Do you think boys are too easily led by what their buddies think?
Do you think it’s
