This is Leiber and Stoller rhythm and blues. Rock and roll did not really come from the blues necessarily, but I would certainly argue that it came from rhythm and blues.
It is also true that some rock music, especially early proto-punk rock like the Stooges and the New York Dolls, were very much influenced by a form of blues called the Chicago Blues out of the city by that name.
