Whole30 Homework

By Uwbrooke

Since I slept through Day 7, I missed the opportunity to do this worksheet for those of us who have made it through the first week of the Whole30.  A nerd at heart, I never miss the opportunity to do a little homework.  Here’s exactly how the Whole30 is shaping up for me so far:

I find myself craving sugar, bread, or sweets when… I finish dinner.  I really, really, really like ending a day with chocolate.
Sometimes, I think I’m hungry, but I’m actually just… thirsty.  Or bored.  Or stressed the eff out.
When I’m craving sugar, I used to eat… chocolate – usually in the form of a chocolate ganache cupcake from Macrina Bakery
During my Whole30, I’m going to reach for… my running shoes, then my keys, then my iPod.  I have been running through cravings all week and it’s working pretty well so far.
When I eat sweet food like fruit, I notice… that I get an immediate shock of energy to my system.  I don’t associate fruit consumption with a reward, but have definitely used it for a quick energy boost on extremely busy nights at work.
When I eat salty foods like nuts or olives, I notice… nothing really.  Trail mix or olives aren’t very satisfying, but they’re easy to pop and help keep me full for longer than sugary fruits do.
I thought I’d miss eating and drinking… almond milk lattes, bacon, and sweet potatoes fries… but I don’t actually miss them at all.
I didn’t think I’d like eating… eggs every day for breakfast… but I’m actually really enjoying it.
I have the hardest time sticking to the Whole30 when I’m feeling… stressed out and extremely busy.
I have the hardest time sticking to the Whole30 when I’m in… Peso’s.  Or Belltown Pizza.  Or Macrina Bakery.  Or social settings of any kind.
When I eat a good breakfast, I feel… ready to conquer the world.  Or, take a nap.
When I prepare a healthy meal from scratch, I feel… like a real-live grown-up.  Cooking something that is delicious and healthy from scratch is probably one of the greatest feelings in the world
Since I started the Whole30, I’ve noticed…

  • That my exercise or sports performance has improved.  I finally pushed through my press and pull-up plateau at CrossFit and my sprinting is more efficient.
  • That my sleep has improved measurably – this may or may not have anything to do with the Whole30 though.  I was really freaking tired at the end of December.
  • That my energy levels are more consistent.  I don’t have a 3pm dip in energy anymore, which is kind of remarkable considering a typical day for me begins at 7am and lasts until midnight.
  • That my emotions are seriously level-headed.  I’m not leaping to conclusions about relationships, or conjecturing irrationally about much of anything.  This might have more to do with the fact that I’ve been to tired to care about anything lately than it does with the Whole30.  Stay tuned.
  • That my recovery after exercise takes less than a day.  I am never, ever sore anymore – even on days when I fail at CrossFit or do hill sprints.
  • That my body feels really freaking strong.
  • That my clothes fit looser than they did 8 days ago.  Seriously.
  • That my conditions are improving.  Digestive distress has alleviated, my skin is totally clear and glowing, I’m  considerably less bloated, and sneezing attacks are almost non-existant.
