Who Let the Air out of Your Arms?

By Gran13

Who let the air out of your arms?

Suddenly I became aware of the fact that my hair had a whole lof of gray peppered in amongst the dark brown hair. I was teaching English to a five-year-old student and lifted my arms while teaching him a new song. The smile left his face, he became very serious and asked; “Jill, who let the air out of your arms?” That day, I was wearing a sleeveless blouse, exposing my upper arms, that must have appeared flabbier than usual.  Not long after that, a friend of mine, who was sitting behind me at a concert, said; “Jill, maybe you and i should wear long sleeves from now on.”  Needless to say, from then on, I only wear sleeves that reach almost to my elbows. I am well aware of the fact that i possess many rust and dent marks from wear and tear as well as from the sun, and no matter how much monthly maintenance I do, they are here to stay.

Not long after this incident, my youngest grandchildren were busy discussing the wrinkles on my neck, touching them and commenting on how soft they felt. Then they proceeded to compare my wrinkles with those of their other grandmother. I called to tell her that our darling grandchildren were comparing our necks and we both had a good laugh.
