Who is this famous actress?
I believe this actress starred in the same movie as the actor in the previous post.
This very famous actress from the last century started her career on Broadway in 1929 at the tender age of 18. Her career spanned from the silent film era into the era of sound movies. By the next year she was already a movie star.
In the 1940’s she appeared in a number of highly-regarded film noir movies directed by Fritz Lang. Her acting continued into the early 1950’s.
In 1951, in a fit of jealousy, her husband shot and wounded Bennett’s agent when he saw them together in a car. They were only talking about her career. Her husband was booked on suspicion of attempted murder. He used a temporary insanity defense and served only four months in jail for his crime. Her husband was a famous movie director. He was head of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1939-41. He made movies mostly from 1929-1956, paralleling his wife’s career.
The incident left a stain on her reputation, and she only acted in a few movies that decade. Nevertheless, she stayed married to this man for the next 14 years, divorcing him in 1965. In the 1960’s, she moved to television and was often seen on TV. She died in 1990.
She has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is next to the star of her sister, also a famous actress.
