White Shirt and Black Cardigan

By Pmeurice
Continuing the Oil portrait classes...
Over the last weeks, had the chance to work with another model. Apart from new painting skills (I start to learn on how getting better colors and organize the palet) I also learnt that, rather than photographic resemblance, knowing a bit more from the model is key for a touching portrait.
Here is the paining done through the classes :
White shirt and black cardigan
I believe I took a long time trying to get my drawing right, and most of it was drawn from my first impression and set observations : in the first session, the model was showing hesitant mind, somehow uncomfortable attitude... this reflects in the finished portrait, and I was disappointed : as we went through the classes, she revealed a warm personality, and her interactions with the group brought sparkles of humor in her look.
The final portrait is kind of severe... it was her on the first day - but was it her at all?
Indeed, we learn everyday!
Let's go back to work.
(purple background made the light and the shadows particularly difficult!)
