When Sex and Politics Collide…

By Tempestra @tempestra1

I was flicking through Now Magazine this week (it’s another of my guilty pleasures) and was rather surprised to see our Prime Minister sharing intimate details about his wedding night.  Apparently he remembers it “minute by minute”.  Well good for you, Dave, but do we really need to know these things?  It annoys me because these politicians seem to think we’ll like them better if they come across as more ‘human’.  Call me cynical, but I see right through it.  Let’s not forget that this is the man who started his career in reputation management!  No, he knew full well that his target audience weren’t going to be overly interested in foreign policy and the NHS and he’s gone for the ‘sex sells’ approach.

When sex and politics collide…Of course, you can’t blame him for trying.  That story has gone on to be been picked up by numerous radio stations and daytime TV shows which are largely hailing him as a great romantic!  And it’s certainly not the first time we’ve seen politicians going for this angle.  Cherie Blair and Sally Bercow (her of the saucy bedsheet photo fame, pictured) have regularly been more than happy to share intimate details about their love lives.

Maybe I am old before my time but I would actually rather hear about what these politicians plan to do to solve our country’s social problems, such as care for the elderly and unemployment.  Of course I like a bit of gossip as much as the next girl, but I guess I’m fussy about where it comes from!
