When Does a Boat Get Organized?

By Saltykisses @svprili

NEVER!

Over the past few days Carl has been working on projects. Our parts came in for the hot water heater: DONE, we had some items welded for the deck, bleached out holding tanks etc. He was in the midst of building a work bench in the lazarette when we were kindly asked to move by the marina. I guess the restaurant that’s all of 20’ from us has complained about us hanging laundry on our lifelines. Pri asked why they thought her favorite blanket was so ugly. Because they have taste in their ass sweetheart. So there went the work bench, never to be worked on again. Well probably not for at least another week. We are housing a bunch of tools on the shelves in the forward cabin which we need to get moved out for when my mom comes to stay in 3 weeks. The forward cabin is also full of about 10 loads of laundry that needs to be done. The marina has 2 washers and 2 dryers which are always in use. If they think they’re backed up you should see our forward cabin! The restaurant is lucky we moved slips because I have a huge bag of baby stuff that needs to washed in preparation for the new arrival and I don’t like to put most of it in the dryer, on the life lines they will go. I put it out there on a facebook group that I belong to what to have onboard for a newborn and the consensus is barely anything. So why is it that I have sooo much crap and still don’t think I’m properly prepared.

I have been moving things around to make room for all the baby stuff that needs to be out, for such a large boat why am I having storage issues. A boat came in with all our ziplocks I ordered from the states. How many ziplocks do you need on a boat? I hope I got enough. ha ha. I’m putting them in the dark holes in the galley that’s super hard to reach, never to be seen again.

Along with prepping for the baby I’m prepping my body too. My Raspberry Leaf tea and Milk tea have come out of their hidey holes and need to be put away. Raspberry Leaf is to tone my uterus and Milk tea is well to help keep up my milk supply. I typically have large babies (last one was 9.1lbs) and they come out like hungry Mike Tysons!

I must say all this organizing is messy messy work. There is stuff everywhere. Next I need to find another space for my winter clothes so the baby clothes can go in my drawers and all our books need to be moved off the book shelf because that’s the new baby bed. Our poor girls seem to be oblivious to all the messy chaos on the boat. Pri has stepped up in her big sister roll and tries to teach Wags how to read, not that she knows how to read but it is super cute. We try and do a few worksheets with the girls everyday. We’re trying our best not to screw up their lives too much.
