After finally finishing Afterwards which was fantastic but incredibly sad, I thought this weeks list of books to add to the to-read list should be a little lighter reading (not that the beach reads this last two weeks weren’t). But, here are the books I’m adding to my to read list this week and think you should too.
The Love Letter by Cathleen Schine: Helen is the owner of a bookstore in a small New England town (isn’t that where all the best romances take place) and discovers a mysterious love letter. As the mystery of the love letter is explored Helen finds herself in the middle of a forbidden romance and all kinds of other problems as the romance unfolds. Classified by critics as an “intelligent” romance, I’m willing to give it a try.
An Instance of the Fingerpost by Iain Pears: An Oxford don is murdered and all the guests who saw it happen saw a different murderer. So, of course, our detective has a long way to go before finding out which of these stories is the truth. I have to admit that I’ve read enough murder mysteries set in England to last me for a while, but I’ll be adding this one to the list after I’ve cleansed my pallet.
The Witch’s Daughter by Paula Brackston: Bess is over 300 years old and living in England after watching her mother murdered as a witch. In an attempt to save her own life Bess goes to a warlock who is willing to teach her he secrets of immortality. But he’s not just content to have Bess alive, and now he’s hunting her down to get what he thinks he’s owed. Let’s be honest, who can resist a good witch novel…
