What is worth eating in Greece?

Greek cuisine is widely recognized as tasty and healthy. While in Greece, it is impossible not to taste at least some local delicacies. The adventure with Greek cuisine is best to start with world-famous traditional dishes, but it is also worth reaching for those less popular, but equally delicious specialties.

Are you sure you know what gyros tastes like?

It may seem that everyone knows what the most popular Greek dish, i.e. gyros, tastes like. In the vast majority of Polish cities, you can buy it in fast food booths, although it's worth knowing that the booth gyros has only its name and some ingredients in common with its traditional counterpart. Originally gyros should be served on a plate, there is definitely more of it than in a booth portion, besides it is served with choritaki salad, while pita, or wheat cake, is baked separately. The above-mentioned Greek salad also tastes much better when the ingredients are original feta cheese, high-quality olive oil, fresh olives or anchovies, available on virtually every Greek market. A similar thing is with the casserole called musaka - eggplants or tomatoes ripening in the Greek sun make

Another commonly known traditional specialty is the tzatziki sauce. The basic ingredients of this dip are thick Greek yogurt, finely grated cucumber, ground garlic and olive oil. This sauce tastes much better in Greece, because you should use traditional Greek yogurt for its preparation - in Polish stores, we can usually only buy Greek-style yogurt.

What Worth Eating Greece?

Not just gyros and tzatziki

If we want to eat something sweet, we also have a lot to choose from. In the search for traditional Greek desserts, it is worth paying attention to, for example, the honey cheesecake from the island of Sifnos called melópita. Soup lovers should try avgolemono - a soup made on the basis of lemon juice and eggs.

Being in Greece you can't not taste the local seafood, served in any form, both hot and cold. Dolmades, a dish wrapped in grape leaves similar to our stuffed cabbage and a bean soup, a delicious vegetarian soup based on white beans and olive oil, is worth eating more traditional Greek dishes.
When you decide to vacation in Greece, you will definitely have a lot to choose when it comes to dishes.
