  • Telemarketing Job Description:

- Contact businesses, customers or private individual via telephone and soliciting a prepared sales talk to sale products and services or request a donation for a charity organization and answer or explain any questions to the potential person answering the calls persistently. These talented telemarketing individuals also have to record all information and keep data relating to every call.

Telemarketing is known as direct marketing or “Cold Calling”.

Cold Calling

Cold Calling is a way of direct marketing. In old days, a salesperson, had to go door-by-door and sale products. These bold and direct ways of approach is called “Cold Calling” or direct marketing. When the big companies were equipped with telephone system, it was not necessary to send a work force on the road, door to door specially when they could make direct contact via a telephone in any weather or circumstances. All they needed was a telephone line, a pen and paper to record information and read from a prepared sales pitch given by a skilled business trades sales management.  Cold Calling is through two different approaches:

  • - Random phone calling

As the title says is randomly make sales call and solicit the product through calling any business or private individuals through a phone directory. With the arrival of Internet and emails, this method is eventually phasing out and email marketing is replacing it. Although many cities and counties issued legal notices and signed petition against cold calling and direct approach without a telephone line owner’s or email owner’s approval, we still witness many phone calls and emails trying to pitch a sales randomly.

  • - Direct niche calling

Direct Niche calling is a new method of approaching clients. It is a perfected model from an older version of cold calling, which certain skilled individual employees titled “Appointment Setters”, provide a list of “lead” for telemarketer or in new phase “salesperson”. This method works for telephone and email and works more effectively since the telemarketer is calling an already interested client.

- Contact businesses, organization or private individuals pitching from a carefully prepared marketing note to attract their attention and make appointments to discuss the potential and benefit of service and product or the charity organization.

Appointment setters use many different technologies to achieve their goal. It all started just as a telemarketer used telephone. Appointment setters use telephone, cell phone, emails, video calls, text or even meeting any potential business and individual to explain the necessity of having an expert and knowledgeable salesperson contact them and to make an appointment.

Most companies, who use telemarketers, now have changed their approach learning from “Cold Calling’s” dark approach and developed their position of marketers as a combined appointment setters who make appointment with potential client to sale the products or services.

What is the qualification of a telemarketer or appointment setter?

- Full knowledge of a language required to clearly making sales.

- Must be patient and calm

- Persistent and polite

- Knowledgeable and aware of the product or service

- Great customer service

- Must be very sociable

- Self developer and extremely motivated

What is the compensation of appointment setter and telemarketer?

The compensation and pay for a sales person in general depends on a company and an employer. Most sales personnel are based on commission of what they sell. As the technology is improving and the way of direct sales marketing is changing, most companies are compensating appointment setters on hourly basis and offer commission on top of what they sale. But some organizations set a certain achievement and sales per month to honor the commission require.

Many ask whether marketing and appointment setting is a beneficial position. To respond I must say it all depends on the individual personality and reflection of the above-mentioned qualities. If you are a sociable individual who can sell Ice to the Eskimo and is not disappointed by any rejection then appointment setter is a job that you might entertain.
