What I Wore: Winter Racing Carnival

By Blondeambition @BrookeFalvey

Hello? Is it me you’re looking for?  I know, it’s been a while since I let my fingers do the talking and shared some stories from my world but things have been busy. Crazy and busy.

I’ve moved house, been back to Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat for another detox (more to come on that later), helped my parents start packing up their house for their upcoming move and juggled my new life as a freelancer.

In between trying to make two bedrooms and two bathrooms worth of stuff fit into my new one-bedroom apartment, I managed to ditch the lycra and distressed jeans and frock up for a couple of race days.

Getting dressed up for the races is one of my favorite things to do; I love wearing hats and pretty dresses and, come winter, adding in coats and gloves.

AAMI Stradbroke Handicap is one of my favorite days on the racing calendar and when the horses aren’t racing there’s plenty of people watching to be done.

The general dress code for the Stradbroke Handicap is black and white with a splash of red which was the perfect excuse for me to wear my favorite Camilla & Marc black and white dress.

Thankfully it was warm inside out marquee so I could get away with it being mostly backless. I teamed it with accessories from Witchery, Nine West and Forever New and a fascinator from The Fillies Collection at David Jones. I also took my black Marcs leather jacket for after-races festivities at Sixes and Sevens and Chow House on James St.

We were lucky enough to score tickets to the upper level of the Birdcage, presented by James Boag’s Premium and I seemed to hit a lucky streak with wins in most of the races!

I backed up the following weekend with a trip to the Ipswich Cup.  The weather was cooler and rainy which gave me the perfect opportunity to wear a new faux fur trimmed coat I’d picked up on sale at Review.

I felt it gave my outfit a bit of a vintage feel. Secrets Shhh at Westfield Chermside also lent me some fabulous jewels for the day to add a little sparkle to my outfit.

While I only had one win at Ipswich Cup, I still had a great day and topped it off with pizza and an Orange is the New Black marathon.
