Let’s start by talking about the formula of this lipstick. “Hello Sailor” has a very soft, buttery consistency (be careful with it in the heat because I imagine it can melt easily). It is a super comfortable, practically balm-like texture that glides easily on the lips with no tugging, dragging, creasing, or settling. It’s an absolutely fantastic formula that is so easy to apply, and it’s pretty much goof-proof! It’s loaded with butters and oils to keep lips hydrated and healthy as well. It’s absolutely divine and a treat to apply this to the lips! Not to mention it’s fun to whip out a blue lipstick in public and watch people’s shocked and horrified glances. J
Moving on to the unusual blue shade of the bullet. This is one of those lipsticks that changes depending on who is wearing it. I don’t think that it’s reacting to body temperature or any of those kinds of things like some other companies’ lip products do, but a Google image search will turn up a variety of berry hues created with this one little blue lipstick. When swatched on regular skin, you’ll find it is very sheer – it’s practically clear – but it is a subtle blue. Let it sit for a minute or two and a slightly pinker tone appears. Apply “Hello Sailor” to lips and it basically mixes with the already pinkened hue of your lips, causing the sheer blue to create a gorgeous sheer wash of juicy berry goodness that is always the perfect shade for you! Lips look shinier and healthier thanks to the Vitamin E rich formula. As if that weren’t nice enough, since it’s blue it will help make your teeth appear whiter too!

I absolutely adore “Hello Sailor”! On my lips it’s subtle, but there is a definite berry shift. It is so comfortable that I completely forget I have anything on my lips. It literally feels like a nourishing lip balm. I suppose you could argue that it actually is, but with a hint of blue tint. The light berry shade it turns my lips seems to last forever. I would really say it’s more of a stain than just a lipstick. I also love that it doesn’t leave a mark all over a glass or straw either. Nothing like lipstick transferring on to everything. I really have nothing negative to say about “Hello Sailor.” Definitely give Lipstick Queen’s blue gem a shot because I doubt that you’ll be disappointed! J
