Weekly Wrap Up

By Sara Zwicker @SaraZwicker

Holy cow, it’s really November!  Where did this year go?  All of a sudden I feel like it snuck up on me and here we are with two months left in 2014!!!  I have another crazy busy week here at work, so in the 15 minutes I have free before my first meeting, here is what last week’s workouts looked like!

Week: 10/27-11/2

Monday: I had another Monday morning of speed work intervals.  I had just downloaded Taylor Swift’s new album and got ready to work.  I did 5 miles and did it in just under 40 minutes, did you hear me??  Under 40 minutes, I have NEVER done that before!  It was 39:54 to be exact, so I barely did it, but it was still a sub 40 and I was SO freaking proud of myself.

Tuesday: I woke up with the intention of doing another 5 miler but when I got on the treadmill, I just wasn’t feeling it, so I did a mile warm up at an 8:45 pace and the did a lifting circuit.  It wasn’t a great workout, I was kind of bummed my body just didn’t feel like running, but a crappy workout is better than no workout at all right?

Wednesday: I had my usual spin class in the morning and it was wonderful.  I look forward to this class all week long, I really wish they would add another morning spin class with Erin (the instructor) she is truly awesome and I am so thankful for this class each week!  I always leave soaked with sweat and on an endorphin high that lasts the rest of the day!

Thursday: I was signed up for my usual morning vinyasa yoga class.  I raced to work in the morning worried I was going to be late, but the instructor called 5 minutes before class was supposed to start and said she wasn’t coming.  WTH?  This isn’t the first time she has done this or was late for class.  I get so pissed when things like this happen because as a fellow instructor, I know at my gym if we pulled this shit (unless it was a dire emergency) we would be fired.  I was so annoyed but I wasn’t going to let it ruin my workout.  I ended up doing a PiYo lower body workout (I have all my workout videos stored on my dropbox so I can access them anywhere) and then worked on some inversion poses afterwards. In the evening, I taught my usual Group Power class to round out my workouts for the day.

Friday: I woke up feeling great and was determined to run.  I queued up Scandal on the ABC app on my phone and ran 5 miles in 43 minutes.  An 8:35 pace felt really challenging after very heavy leg lifting the night before, but it felt great to get it done.  Then in the evening, we went trick or treating.  We walked around for about 90 minutes with Ashton going from house to house and we all had a blast.  Here are some of my favorite pictures from the evening!

He is such a little ham these days and when I tell him to smile for me, he squishes his face together and says cheese!  I freaking love this kid! He really understood what Halloween was about this year and was all about saying “trick or treat” which was awesome!  It was our best Halloween ever, I still can’t stop smiling when I talk about it!

Saturday: We had soccer in the morning with Ashton and I used that running around as my workout for the day, so for all intents and purposes, it was a rest day. I got my haircut during Ashton’s nap…what do you think? I haven’t had bangs in YEARS, but I wanted a change that wasn’t super dramatic but still was enough of a change to notice.

After Ashton woke up, we went on a mission to buy Halloween decorations for the house.  We never were ones to decorate our house for the holiday’s until Ashton came along and so slowly we have been building out decorations for each holiday.  We went to Marshalls, Pier One, Michael’s, Kohl’s and Target and spent about 3 hours going to town.  I think we are officially ready for Halloween next year as we dragged in 5 huge bags of decorations that we got for 50-70% off!  Not too shabby!

Sunday: During Ashton’s nap I did the PiYo Sweat workout and then did some laundry and meal prep for the week.  I love PiYo because it’s enough of a workout to make me feel like I did something, but nothing so crazy that I so tired or sore from for the next few hours, it’s a great low impact, quick burn kind of workout for the weekends.

So, there you have it!  It was a good week of workouts with a decent amount of variety. I am still looking to find the right balance of workouts and want to make some tweaks to my schedule in the next few weeks, I am just thinking through the best way to do it.

How was your weekend?  What did you do for Halloween?  What was the best costume you saw?
