Weekly Marketing Skinny • May 30, 2015

Posted on the 30 May 2015 by Ana Hoffman @AnaTrafficCafe

Don’t have the time to read all the marketing news, blog posts, announcements, and other content related to SEO/social media/online marketing published each week?

I’ve got you covered.

I sift through trillions (well, hundreds) of online publications to stay on top of marketing news that might affect your online business.

And I package them neatly in bite-sized chunks in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies right here at Traffic Generation Café every Saturday morning.

Between you and me, I have no idea why I bother investing hours of my time weekly reading all these marketing news just to boil them down for you in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies, other than the fact that I know you don’t have the time to keep up with the fast-paced marketing industry on your own, yet you DO need to be in-the-know to remain competitive.

Plus, your enthusiastic comments and social media shares show me just how much you truly appreciate being kept in the marketing loop in just a few minutes per week.

If you appreciate what I do, share this Marketing Skinny:

THANK YOU.

Now grab your cup of coffee and let’s catch up on the marketing news that matter to your business.

Website Traffic

Here’s something I should do more often: share specific strategies on how to drive traffic. Hmmm… that sounded a bit strange… Isn’t that what Traffic Generation Café is all about anyway?

Correction: I need to share more specific strategies on how I drive traffic to Traffic Generation Café in practice. It’s one thing to talk about what’s possible. It’s an entirely different thing to watch over my shoulder to see how I actually do it, right?

So that’s exactly what I did in this post on Google+:

♨  TRAFFIC HACK: How to multiply your traffic? Multiply your content!

Search

Google Answer for ‘stop hiccups’: have an orgasm… or a rectal message.

Google brings unified search to Google Calendar and Google Drive on the Web.

iOS users will now be able to open mobile app content straight from Google Search.

Social Media

Facebook confirmed it now officially supports GIFs – in a limited kind of way though.

This is a first (I think): Germany sued e-commerce sites for using Facebook Like buttons…

Someone already got a Secret Service visit over tweet sent to President Obama.

Twitter introduced Audience Insights to help you better understand key audiences on Twitter.

Finally! Twitter brings live-streaming app Periscope to Android.

And here is How to Use Periscope on Android [SlideShare Tutorial]. You should also definitely read my full Periscope tutorial here, plus follow me on Periscope @AnaHoffman.

Here’s how YouTube captured 10 years of YouTube.

Bradley Horowitz says that Google Photos (see below) is Gmail for your images. And that Google Plus is not dead.

And Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President at Google, said this about Google+: “We are working on it… You will hear more about it later this year.

Google+ Notifications are now minus the ‘+’.

Pinterest might be small, but certainly mighty in driving traffic and sales.

On a Side Note…

Google I/O Skinny

Google I/O is an annual conference for developers.

That’s where Google usually makes their biggest product announcements of the year in tech, mobile, and beyond.

Google I/O 2015 was held May 28-29 and this Weekly Marketing Skinny section will recap all the major unveilings.

Coincidentally, most of them start with ‘Google’…

Let’s start with Sundar Pichai, Google’s Senior Vice President in charge of Android, Chrome, and Google Apps. What Sundar Pichai thinks about technology is what Google thinks about technology. And here’s what he things about technology.

Google announced a developer preview of the next version of Android, the M release.

Google introduced Google Photos – a new standalone product (no longer a part of Google+) that allows you to store, organize, save, and share your photos and videos with unlimited free storage.

Google Inbox is now open to all, plus new features added.

Google announces Brillo, an operating system for the Internet of Things.

Google “Now on tap” to help you with what you need in the moment, anywhere on your phone.

Google introduced Android Pay, the simple and secure way to pay with your Android phone.

And also: forget about credit cards and cash, Google is making payments Hands Free. Literally.

Google announced turn-by-turn directions for offline Maps (when you have no internet connection).

Google unveiled Project Jacquard – a conductive fabric that can communicate with digital devices.

Google partners with GoPro to launch Jump, a virtual reality filming kit.

Google Chromecast gets autoplay, queuing, second screen and multiplayer game powers.

HBO Now is coming to Android and Chromecast this summer.

And here’s the cherry on top: you can watch the entire Google I/O 2015 Keynote presentation here. (You can safely skip the first 30 min or so.)

Marketing This & That

How many people are using the Internet?

Oh brother… IRS hacked, thieves made off with 100K taxpayers’ data.

Amazon launched free same-day delivery for Prime members in 500 U.S. cities.

Do you remember all the puzzling and outright hilarious errors that plagued the Apple Maps when it was first released back in 2012? Here’s why and what Apple is doing about it.

After falling behind Google last year, Apple has reclaimed the top spot in BrandZ’s list of the top 100 most valuable global brands in 2015.

Over 14,000 websites block Congress in digital protest of Patriot Act stalemate.

EBay’s new Promoted Listings ads: sellers pay when users buy.
