Weekly Marketing Skinny • May 2, 2015

Posted on the 02 May 2015 by Ana Hoffman @AnaTrafficCafe

Don’t have the time to read all the marketing news, blog posts, announcements, and other content related to SEO/social media/online marketing published each week?

I’ve got you covered.

I sift through trillions (well, hundreds) of online publications to stay on top of marketing news that might affect your online business.

And I package them neatly in bite-sized chunks in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies right here at Traffic Generation Café every Saturday morning.

Between you and me, I have no idea why I bother investing hours of my time weekly reading all these marketing news just to boil them down for you in my Weekly Marketing Skinnies, other than the fact that I know you don’t have the time to keep up with the fast-paced marketing industry on your own, yet you DO need to be in-the-know to remain competitive.

Plus, your enthusiastic comments and social media shares show me just how much you truly appreciate being kept in the marketing loop in just a few minutes per week.

If you appreciate what I do, share this Marketing Skinny:

THANK YOU.

Now grab your cup of coffee and let’s catch up on the marketing news that matter to your business.

Search

Google’s Gary Illyes confirmed Mobile Friendly Algo has completely rolled out.

And now that it’s out, Google is running “Satisfied With These Results?” surveys on mobile searches.

Very interesting: mobile-only internet users exceeded desktop-only users for the first time in March.

According to a study, 27% of searchers phrase their query in the form of a question.

Bing now shows “Trending on social networks” section in Search Results.

And Yahoo has added an expandable Tumblr section in the lower half of the search results page.

Social Media

Facebook is killing it in social shares from publishers’ websites, according to ShareThis report.

Facebook testing a feature on mobile that lets you select friends and pages whose posts you’d want to see atop News Feed. Wouldn’t that be nice?…

Facebook ‘suggests’ native video uploads to page admins who try to post external video links.

More Facebook: apps will now ask an average of 50 percent fewer permissions than before. Finally.

Even more Facebook: Facebook offers new online chat support for its advertisers.

More, more Facebook: it is hitting the road again with Boost Your Business program for small businesses.

Facebook also launched free video calling for Messenger.

Looks like Google+ has removed the automatic hashtag feature introduced way back in May 2013.

Google+ is testing a new “Collections” feature – this might be very Pinteresting…

Google+ joined Twitter on July 2011 – and finally, the team sent their first tweet.

And in response to ‘Aren’t you dead already?’ sentiment, Google+ teamtweeted this Monty Python clip.

The Twitter “firehose” is coming to Google sometime in May.

Twitter has quietly removed the yellow badge from its main ad unit, hoping to to make its native advertising content look a bit more… native.

Did you know Twitter content is available in Apple’s Spotlight search?

Twitter introduced Highlights: a summary of the best Tweets delivered via rich push notification.

Meerkat one-ups Twitter’s Periscope by launching its live video-streaming app for Android.

Speaking of Periscope: more than a million people signed into Periscope in its first 10 days.

Periscope update: it’s now easier to find people you want to follow on Periscope. Not on Periscope yet? Here’s a tutorial to get you started.

Introducing Buffer for Pinterest: Buffer Awesome and Buffer for Business customers can now post and schedule to Pinterest, in addition to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.

SoundCloud has been beta testing its podcasting features with a private group since 2011, but now it’s finally letting everyone in.
