Posted on the 22 March 2014 by Ana Hoffman @AnaTrafficCafe

Don’t have the time to read all the marketing news, blog posts, announcements, and other content related to SEO/social media/online marketing published each week?

I’ve got you covered.

I sift through trillions (well, hundreds) of online publications to stay on top of marketing news that might affect your online business.

SEO

This is how it all started:

Google’s Matt Cutts: We’ve Penalized A Guest Blogging Network

Then…

Google’s Matt Cutts: We Can Take Action On Sites Benefiting From Guest Post Networks

But wait; there’s more!

Google Slaps Marketing Company Portent for Unnatural Links

Check out Ian Lurie‘s (Portent founder) comment on the post:

It looks like this is about historical stuff – pre-2012 mostly. At least, that’s where I’m finding the offending guest posts. There ARE the exploded sitewide footer links, but those are easily disavowed and probably were buried by Google the moment they appeared. It’s gotta be the guest posts.

Sounds like their penalty is pointing in direction of MyBlogGuest as well.

Link building can’t get any dumber than this – truly.

And here’s a follow-up:

More from Google

With all the penalty news breaking this week, Matt Cutts’ new video got pushed all the way down in my SEO section – for once. lol
