Extreme sports such as base jumping, bungee jumping and paragliding are widely considered something of a new phenomenon born out of people’s desire to inject a little danger into their otherwise relatively safe lives. But it turns out daredevil thrill-seekers have been putting their limbs on the line for decades in pursuit of the ultimate rush. Take a look at this British Pathe film film entitled World’s Most Dangerous Sport (1955) which shows fearless skiers in Bavaria, Germany, being towed by cars and motorcycles at great speeds. It’s clocked up over 40,000 hits of YouTube, partly thanks for the vintage 1950s Porsches on show.
