Valentine’s Day – is It a Day to Remember Or Tacky Nonsense?

By Tempestra @tempestra1

I remember well my days as a lovelorn schoolgirl.  Valentine’s Day would approach and my friends and I would all discuss who we were sending cards to.  And so we would thoughtfully pen a mysterious love note to the object of our affections and slip it into their locker unnoticed, watching and waiting to see if they figured out who sent it.  Valentine’s Day was fun back then.  But nowadays, it has definitely lost its appeal.

Valentine’s Day – is it a day to remember or tacky nonsense?
Every year, I am disappointed.  I can’t remember the last time I received a card.  I’m dating someone now but does he take any notice of my hints for some nice new lingerie?  Of course not!  Red roses?  Hell would freeze over first.  At best, we go out for dinner together – and begrudgingly on his part.  I am beginning to wonder if it’s not just something that should be reserved for the schoolgirls and boys who use it as a way to make their first moves on their crushes!

That said, it was revealed this week that Brits spend a whopping £880 million on buying Valentine’s Day gifts – most of which is on chocolates and sexy underwear.

Perhaps romance isn’t totally dead.  Maybe I just don’t attract romantic types anymore….
