Using Face Wash with Salicylic Acid

We all are habituated to face-wash brands we use, that hydrate our pores and make our face look clean. Some face wash tend to have different compositions to other. While the reason for the same can be many, some face wash come with a particular and popular ingredient called the salicylic acid. What is Salicylic Acid?

Extracted from plants, it is a beta hydroxy acid. When I say hydroxy, it’s not science verbatim but an acid of the hydroxyl group, containing the OH elements, with a reactive quality to cells in human. Salicylic acid is used mainly to treat skin ailments, being acne, psoriasis, sunburns.

How does Salicylic acid work?

Acne is caused by the excess production of sebum (the oily substance that the glands produce to prevent skin from drying). Salicylic acid do not control sebum production, but in combination with other products used in the making of the face wash, it aims to clear the skin of acne and other skin ailments.

Benefits of Using Face Wash with Salicylic Acid

1.  Cleansing

Salicylic acid not only cleans the face, but it is popular as a deep cleanser. It gets beneath the skin, killing the dead cells on the top layer of the skin, opening the clogged pores and releasing the new layer of skin – making you look fresh and young.

2. Prevents dryness

If there’s anything that can make the face look dull and aged, its dryness. We are constantly exposed to sun and stress, causing damage to the skin. Salicylic acid penetrates deep, working its way through the skin, to fade the dryness and ageing and emitting glow and radiance.

3. Releases blocked pores

The acid kills the dead cells, the black and white heads, releasing all blocked pores, rather making them disappear depending on the kind of face wash used for the skin-type.

4. Exfoliates the skin

Face Wash with salicylic acid, opens the pores, removing the redness and inflammation in the skin caused by bacteria’s that block the pores, due to dirt accumulation around them.

Side-Effects of Using Face Wash with Salicylic Acid

1. Irritation

It is a new product for your skin and can cause irritation and dryness, especially if it is clubbed with multiple products constituting the same element to combat the same ailment.

2. Burning Sensation

You may experience a slight burning sensation the first few times. If the sensation still persists, contact your doctor immediately.

3. Excessive Usage

If used excessively, like any other product, this acid in the face wash, too can react on your skin. Make sure you do not wash your face more than twice a day or opt for usage as advised by your doctor.

4. Use only if advised

If you are pregnant, prone to allergic reactions, already on prescribed preparations of any kind,  curbing illness or infection, particularly of the skin, this product is a total no-no for your skin.
