As the logging blockade on Rainbow Ridge in the Mattole nears 6 weeks old, the situation has taken an interesting new turn. Tensions are easing as both sides have resumed efforts towards an agreeable resolution. Currently, access for logging and road building remains blocked. Your donation is URGENTLY needed to help forest defenders survey critical forest habitat, and to continue to blockade in this rugged terrain. Thanks for your continued support!

On Monday, August 18th, from 7-8:30 pm, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is holding a public meeting to discuss Humboldt Redwood Companys’ dubious certification as environmentally sound, at the Monday Club in downtown Fortuna. HRC is trying to present its’ review of logging plans in the Mattole area as acceptable. Be there to challenge their plans to cut Old Growth trees, cut in previously unlogged areas, and herbicide Oak stands with Atrazine. The entrance to the Mattole area has been blocked by protesters for almost a month, and the company is being forced to review the worst aspects of their Timber Harvest plans (THP’s). Be aware that Mike Jani, president of HRC, was until recently a director of FSC.
