Tweedlers’ Jukebox Song of the Week: Refugees

Posted on the 16 June 2013 by Donnambr @_mrs_b

Our song of the week goes to Refugees by The Tears. Theirs is a story worth telling. Britpop legends Suede began life with talented singer Brett Anderson and guitarist Bernard Butler. After two Suede albums, Butler left after rifts with Anderson and had a stint as a solo artist and as one half of McAlmont and Butler. In 2004 Anderson, having now disbanded Suede, and Butler reunited to form The Tears. The group lasted only until 2006 but their debut album, Here Come The Tears, was well received and felt fresh and original, in comparison to the final years of Suede. The opening song, Refugeesis the best one from the album and gives a taste of the excellent album that follows. Anderson returned to solo work after The Tears and has since put Suede back together but I will always have fond memories of The Tears.
