Tuscan Gems – Suvereto

By Ingridd @cosytraveler

First of all, our apologies for almost a week of silence. Ingrid is suffering from her depression again, so we have decided that I take over the website once more. Don't worry, I'll take very good care of her and hopefully, by the end of November, she is back on the website.

So, while Ingrid is resting, let me introduce you to the small town of Suvereto.

This was our "home" during our trip in Tuscany. We rented a small house and instead of going to restaurants, we catered for ourselves. That was an easy job, with at least 2 big grocery shops in the neighborhood. Every day, Ingrid and I bought fresh produce - and the necessary wine! - and cooked supper. So, while the sun went down, the two of us were busy in the kitchen. Quite romantic, if I may say so...

Even more romantic was the center of Suvereto. Surrounded by a pentagonal wall is a small medieval town that dates from the 10th century. Within these walls you can find cobbled streets, churches, monasteries, shops and restaurants.

Ingrid and I didn't exactly know how to start our exploration, so we chose a random street and started climbing. At the end of the street we discovered a small chapel and the remains of St. Francis' Cloister. This monastery was founded in 1286 and nowadays in summer serves as a center of culture and gastronomy.

We descended the street, crossed the main road, where you can find most of the shops, pubs and restaurants and started climbing the opposite street, taking in all the details.

We finally arrived at a small square, where we could enjoy the beautiful panorama of Suvereto and surroundings.

Suvereto - and especially its historical center - attracts a lot of tourists in summer. When Ingrid and I were there in the Easter vacation, most of the visitors were Italian. Anyway, in the region itself you will find lots of agricultural enterprises like wineries and oil mills, but we will talk about that in a later post.

By the way, if you want to see more pictures of Tuscany, why not have a look at Ingrid's photography website!
