Tuesday Training Report: Yes, You Read that Right! I’m Training Again!!!

That’s right everyone, you read that right – I, Debi Lantzer, have gotten back on track with my training, clean eating, water intake, journaling, and well, basically everything that I had allowed to fall to the wayside for a million lame reasons.  The last time I wrote a Tuesday Training Report was back in June of 2016.  How sad is that?

Even though I’m not a big “New Year’s Resolution” person, I was planning on changing my eating habits after the holidays since my “fat clothes” were getting too small.  I don’t have enough room in my closet for an additional larger size, so I knew I needed to arrest this problem sooner than later. Since January 1 was a Sunday and football was on and because I wasn’t quite ready to change everything in my life, I tapered…. Okay, no I didn’t, because I ate everything I knew wasn’t a good food choice that weekend knowing things needed to change….. soon.

On January 1, I did lace up and head out and run/walk for 30 minutes.  I found a plan that was included in Women’s Running magazine called “Go From Couch to Half Marathon in Just 20 Weeks”, and I penciled the plan into my calendar just in case I might ever decide to actually train for the Cleveland races in May. (More on this topic below.) It’s similar to the Galloway plans which consist of run/walk intervals.  I kind of wanted to see if I could even handle the first day of the plan and it turns out I was fine with it.

Side story: A friend I used to know from a running group has become a trainer at a gym that is about 8 steps from my front door. Well – not 8 steps – probably 8 minutes because it’s 2.8 miles away. While it’s a little more pricey than the big box gyms, their classes are smaller and are more specialized to meet my needs. The gym was also offering an 8-week fitness challenge for a reasonable price that will include a new hairdo and photos at the end of the 8 weeks. I kept seeing it in my Facebook feed and my friend kept tagging everyone I know so I would see the offer at least ten times a day – okay twice a day – so it lured me and I went in for a complimentary class on December 22 to see what it was like.  What happened?  I signed at the “X” but I went home worried, and didn’t post about it seriously questioning my ability to honor the commitment. I knew I had until the first of the year to decide and back out (although I’m not even sure if I would have gotten my money back).

Another side story: Most anyone who knows me also knows I got a 7 month old puppy in August.  He is a Parson Russell Terrier whose name is Blossom Valley Secret Agent “Brodie” and he’s a very high energy dog.  My last dog was the same breed so I knew what I was in store for, and I committed to myself that I would teach him to be a running dog. I took him out a couple of times and he was actually pretty great, but I was never consistent with him and felt bad about it.  I did get him to walk the treadmill with me one time and it was awesome!

So then…. something finally clicked. I did what I knew I needed to do – I prayed.  I asked God to help me get back on track, to keep me focused and to honor my commitments to myself and others….. and guess what happened?  I have something to report today by way of training, oh, and I have some other awesome news I’ll give you first! It is my honor and privilege to announce that I’ve again been selected as an Ambassador for the Rite Aid Cleveland Half Marathon and I’m officially in training so that 20 week plan I downloaded in December is going to be needed!

Tuesday Training Report: Yes, You Read that Right! I’m Training Again!!!

The race is coming up this May and just like years in the past, I’ll be sharing my training with you. Also be sure to stay tuned for a race entry giveaway, too! I’ll even give you links to my fellow ambassadors’ giveaways in case you want to join me for this race.  I’ve decided I’m going to do the 8K and Half Marathon (total distance 18.1 miles).  Since this post is already getting too long, here’s a quick recap of my training this year:

Sunday, January 1 – 1/1 RUN – 2.16 mi. @ 13:53 pace, avg HR 162 bpm, 273 calories burned

I’ll save today’s activities for next week’s Tuesday Training Report, since there will definitely be one! I have not had chocolate, dessert or candy of any kind since January 2.  I’m drinking lots of water and I’m back to it with training like I haven’t been since before my car accident in 2012.  The hashtags I’m using for this year sum up my commitment: #honoringme #victory #bestyearEVER!!!
