Most everyone now knows that I made a firm decision to either TRAIN for events or simply not participate. This sounds like an obvious statement, but those who really know me, know that I am known for not properly training, just showing up, and pushing through to the finish.
It's not really how I set out to do races, but because I've not been able to find that driving force I used to have , it's what happens. If I have already registered for an event, I feel committed to participate, whether I'm ready or not (and lately "not" is the case).
A little over a week ago, I had one of those defining moments - a time to decide whether to make the commitment or drop out. I opted for making the commitment. I have also decided that I will make Tuesdays my day to report on the week's training results, but unfortunately, I couldn't quite start yesterday like I wanted to - mostly because I didn't add it to my editorial calendar like I wanted to! I posted my training calendar to this blog (under the tab above for "training") and I added today's run to the footer section (see below), all in the hopes of making myself transparently accountable to training.
I will also confess that I currently weigh more than I have weighed in over ten years, and this in itself has to change. I know that those extra pounds take away from my running speed and I really want to get faster so I need to take a hard look at the changes I need to make.
So are the results of this week's training and weight:
Tuesday - 2 miles on the home treadmill (14:18 / 14:26)
Friday - 3 miles on the home treadmill (times not recorded)
Saturday - 4 miles on the home treadmill (14:48 / 14:58 /14:09 / 14:47)
(I ran yesterday, but this will be on next week's training log.)
WEIGHT/EATING: I officially lost 4 pounds. I know that always happens the first week, so my goal is to lose a pound a week for 30 weeks (at least). I was able to make healthy food choices Monday through Friday, and Saturday. Sunday I had popcorn (empty carbs) and didn't make the best choices.
DETAILS: Last week, I skipped one run on the schedule and I was planning to cross-train on Sunday. It was pouring down rain and I had planned to ride my bike, so this cross-training fell through. I was supposed to run one morning before work, but those crazy Cavaliers are ruining my sleep right now (thank God! #GoCavs #ClevelandProud #HometownPride #ALLinCLE).
Okay, short and sweet. Please wish me luck, keep me in your prayers and stay tuned as I report next Tuesday on my training and weight. I hope that I can finally be on track to feel healthy physically and mentally! The scale will simply be a tool for me as I head down the path of good health and fitness!
