A couple of weeks ago I saw that gNappies were looking for reviewers for their reusable nappies. I have been wanting to try them out with Little Miss A for quite a while but didn’t really know where to start. There are so many different types to choose from it was all quite confusing and I just kept putting it off!
I was delighted when they agreed to send me a couple of their nappies to try out together with some disposable inserts.
So, what are gNappies? gNappies are colourful nappy covers (gPants) that you can either use with biodegradable, disposable inserts or washable, reusable cloth inserts.
It is recommended that you only need between 6-8 gPants for full time use (although looking at the range of designs, it would be hard not to buy them all!). The gPants come in a range of sizes including newborn (6-10lbs), small (8-14lbs), medium (13-28lbs), large (26-36lbs) and Xlarge (34+lbs).
gNappies are earth-friendly, having a 100% biodegradable, disposable insert that can be either home composted or thrown in the bin.
What did we think? When the gPants arrived I was impressed with the quality and feel of them. The gPants were soft and had a waterproof liner inside which was attached very well with strong poppers.
As for the disposable inserts, when I first opened one out I thought it looked huge and couldn’t see how it would fit in the pants. Once I started putting it in, however, I found it fit very well and it was incredibly easy to insert into the waterproof liner.
The gPants were very easy to put on Little Miss A (and trust me, she is a wriggler!). The velcro straps are easy to use and strap around the back so that little hands can’t undo it! The velcro is also very strong and I had no worries of the nappy coming off once it had been done up.
I went for size medium for Little Miss A and they fit her perfectly and she appeared to be very comfortable in them. I always assumed reusable nappies would be big and bulky, however, once on they were not really much bulkier than disposable nappies and we had no trouble with them under any of her clothes.
We had no leakage whilst using the nappies and the liners were very easy to change. You simply remove it from the waterproof liner, roll it up to put in a nappy bag and then insert the new liner. If you like you could have a few nappies ready lined to make changing time even easier.
Although it costs a fair bit to get started with reusable nappies in the long run it should save you money if you opt for the cloth liners and obviously it is better for the environment too as you are not filling up landfills with disposable nappies!
I really liked using them on Little Miss A. Not only did they look great they were also really easy and convenient to use, which I wasn’t really expecting. I am seriously looking into purchasing some more for her together with the cotton inserts as I think purchasing the disposable inserts would work out to be quite a bit more expensive, particularly at the moment whilst she is teething and requiring quite a few nappy changes a day!
There are lots of great designs to choose from suitable for both boys and girls and, as you may have seen me mention on my Facebook page, gNappies have released a fabulous Christmas gPant, the gJingle. Isn’t it lovely?!
I can definitely see myself becoming converted to reusable nappies as they are a lot easier to use than I imagined and think they look so much nicer too!
