Trump says Ukraine should get a new president; Zelensky “could have made many deals and for some reason he never does.” For some reason. “He wants to make problems for the world. He wants to make problems for our farmers, our ranchers, with diesel fuel.”
So it’s Zelensky responsible for our high fuel prices. Not Trump’s Iran war!
Nor is anything Russia’s fault. Certainly not the Ukraine situation. Trump had a lovely conversation with Putin, wishing him a happy birthday. Supposed to quiz Putin about Russia’s mysterious plague outbreak, instead he made a deal to buy Russian diesel oil.
This, only weeks after Trump signed legislation slating sanctions against any nation buying oil from Russia.
But he hopes this smelly deal will lower diesel costs at U.S. pumps, gaining Republican votes in the midterms. Though most Americans don’t use diesel; and the effect on its price will likely be marginal. While this will be tremendous for Russia, easing their economic woes, helping finance their atrocities against Ukraine. Something Zelensky had the temerity to point out. He also has to keep reminding us it was Russia that started the war by invading Ukraine — not the other way around.
Trump has now announced a cease-fire deal, each side agreeing not to attack energy infrastructure. He’s constantly saying things he prefers were true. In other words, lying. Always just full of shit. There’s no cease-fire.
A big factor here is Trump hating Zelensky. Having been impeached over his bribery/extortion attempt, withholding military aid unless Zelensky agreed to smear Biden.
Putin, in contrast, Trump dotes on. Such a strong man; a role model. Putin manages elections so nicely — opposing parties barred from the ballot. And he has political opponents killed. If only Trump could operate like that.
He’d already cut off U.S. military assistance to Ukraine — a gift to Putin, and a kick in Zelensky’s teeth. As is the diesel deal. He’s oblivious that defending Ukraine is defending the world order that America painstakingly built over the better part of a century; not a world ruled by power and force (as Trump consiglieri Stephen Miller approvingly said), where might makes right. That’s a recipe for constant conflict, very much against America’s true interests. If Russia is allowed to succeed in its Ukraine aggression, even partially, that’s the kind of violent world we’ll have.
And Trump keeps saying it’s up to Ukraine to make some kind of deal to end the war. Giving Putin what he wants. While Putin could end it tomorrow simply by stopping his unjustified murderously criminal attacks on Ukraine.
It’s Russia that needs a new president. And America.
