Think some Republican candidate is okay to vote for? No. They’re all inescapably complicit in the sick cult of a vile bullshitter trashing everything America stands for.
GOP voters do have some legitimate viewpoints; many struggle economically and resent elites and institutions they feel don’t serve them. But they’re victims of a giant con, betrayed by Republicans they’ve mistakenly empowered. Trump the consummate con man, royally screwing his own cult fans.
Democrats aren’t perfect. I don’t love everything about them (was a Republican most of my life). The “socialist” stuff is misguided. But most Democrats are not into that (nor “woke”), they’re firmly in the reasonable, responsible center. And are basically honest and sincere in wanting what’s best for all. Republicans in contrast are cynical hypocrites. Trump screams about “fake news” when its biggest source is his own mouth.
I get fund-raising emails from both sides. Dem ones always play it straight. Republicans’ outrageous nonsense often makes my jaw drop.
This regime’s racism is blatant and disgusting. The only “refugees” they’ve actually welcomed here are white South Africans, based on a ridiculous lie that they suffer persecution. Making us a joke among nations.
While we slam the door on practically all true refugees who’ve suffered often horrific mistreatment. Once a shining haven for those people, and ones seeking better lives who’ve always enriched us both economically and culturally, now our regime itself commits crimes against humanity, with ICE violence and cruelty for mostly innocent people, over 25,000 shipped off to dangerous countries not their own.
This is by far the most corrupt regime in our history. Actually selling presidential pardons for money. Trump made billions from a crypto scam fleecing investors. The Reflecting Pool mess was a case of contracting corruption.
Rule of law, a key underpinning of a good society, is being shredded. For years Trump falsely postured as the victim of “witch hunts” and “weaponized justice.” He’d committed real crimes, regarding January 6, and stealing classified documents, and various business frauds (with 34 felony convictions). Now he himself has truly weaponized a politicized Justice Department to persecute his personal targets, even indicting James Comey for a seashell photo.
Idiotic policies wreak economic and geopolitical havoc. Tariffs are self-harming madness. Gas prices the least of it; everything we buy made costlier, while blowing up relationships with our (former) foreign friends. Weakening America globally. As does the stupid clueless Iran war, also pushing up prices for gas and much else.
As for that other war, Trump has now actually put us on the side of Putin and Russia, by sabotaging Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself against their criminal aggression. If Russia is allowed to get away with this, it will wreck the world order that we painstakingly built, and pave the way for more conflict and violence. Totally against America’s true interests. It’s insane. Literally treasonous.
The mentioned ICE sadism is emblematic of today’s Republican mentality. Shown too in their destruction of social safety nets that help the poor and disadvantaged, while shoveling tax cuts to the richest. All the exact opposite of what Jesus preached.
Such nasty behavior is indeed jarring for people who (incorrectly) insist this was founded as a “Christian nation” with god-inspired morality. What our founders actually did prescribe was separation of church and state — to which Republicans take a sledge-hammer. Ignorantly failing to realize how church-state separation was actually a great boon for religion. Which they’ve so politicized, too, that it turns many people away.
Republicans’ “election integrity” crusade is emblematic of their core dishonesty. It’s a smokescreen for actually seeking the exact opposite — deliberately sowing distrust in elections and denying people’s voting rights. Especially of course minorities and disadvantaged ones likely to vote Democrat. Concerns about noncitizen and mail voting are lies, problems there are vanishingly rare. While messing up elections will provide a pretext for refusing to honor the results (as Trump did in 2020, with fake electors and incitements to violence).
Recent polls show Democrats now distrust our elections almost as much as Republicans do. Because Democrats legitimately fear Republicans will again try to overturn the results. Portending another national crisis or even the death of democracy. Unless Republican candidates are scorched so strongly it scuppers their stinky shtick.
That may well happen, thanks mainly to the “affordability” issue, hurting many voters. Yet that seems a shallow reason when this regime is such an all-around vile one.
America has not been made “great again,” but deeply sick. Vote for healing.
