True Athlete Natural Whey Protein from the Vitamin Shoppe

By Debi Lantzer @debiL1611

It seems like every day I read about a new protein mix - whether it's rice, whey, casein, egg, soy, hemp, pea, plant, and well, there are probably even more I didn't even think of while typing this sentence. Recently, I've grown very fond of a plant protein I've been using, but I'm always open to trying others. In fact, just yesterday I tried a vegan protein that I liked pretty well.

Today, however, I'm going to talk about a protein I recently received from the Vitamin Shoppe called True Athlete Natural Whey Protein. I requested and received vanilla, because I like to compare "apples to apples" when tasting these protein mixes. In addition to providing me with FOUR packets of vanilla, they also threw in two chocolate, a soft navy shirt and a very nice water bottle/shaker cup/drink chiller.

I will start with the delivery service provided by the Vitamin Shoppe - lightning fast, well packaged and well protected within the box. The Vitamin Shoppe is the perfect lifestyle destination to pick up the latest offerings in fitness, muscle building and weight management products. They have lots of pre- or post-workout products available to help make the most of your effort.

Brian Tanzer, MS, CNS and Health Science Expert for the Vitamin Shoppe shares his thoughts: "Your body needs protein to function, and whey protein is an excellent source of amino-acid rich protein that can help support muscle growth and post-workout recovery. Because it digests and is a rich source of BCAA's, many athletes use it as part of their nutritional regimen."

True Athlete Natural Whey Protein is great for people who are concentrating on fueling their workouts. True Athlete products are NSF certified to be free of banned substances and contain no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or bovine growth hormone. The True Athlete Natural Whey Protein comes in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and unflavored, so they can satisfy everyone's taste buds.

The ingredients for a vanilla single serving packet are listed as follows:

That's 20 grams of protein with only 120 calories! WOW! Oh, and the other ingredients include: Whey protein concentrate, natural flavors, inulin, cellulose gum, stevia extract, xanthan gum, LactoSpore L-sporogenes, lactase digestive enzyme, papain, bromelain.

As I said above, I like to compare different protein mixes "apples to apples" so I used this in my morning protein shake. I started with 50/50 orange juice, added fruit and vegetables, added this protein mix, and some crushed ice. I blended it together like I always do, and it mixed in very nicely. The True Athlete Natural Whey Protein had a good consistency and had a great taste. There wasn't any aftertaste or bitterness at all.

And you have to ♥love♥ True Athlete's mantra -

"I compete against myself, because I am the strongest competitor I know.
I am focused on achieving my best, and I know that I deserve the best.
I pursue performance. I am dedicated to my regimen.
I am naturally driven.
I AM A True Athlete."

You can buy True Athlete Natural Whey Protein in single serving packets or in a 2.5 lb. container. Personally, I really like the single serving packets for when I'm traveling to out of town races, but when I'm at home, the larger container fits perfectly in the cupboard.
