Last year on Dec myself and my friends planned for an excursion, a ecotour .We planned to visit Pichavaram ,Let me give you a brief intro about this place . Pichavaram is in Cuddalore district which is near to chidambram .Its about 60 – 70 kilometer from Pondicherry .Some say its the world second largest mangrove forest in the world. Its in a fishermen village .Boating is the only activity which pleases tourists .We started by morning 8 and reached there by 10 ,entrance fee were charged for getting into that village Rs.5 . Although its under the control TamilNadu Tourism board ,no proper facilities were there Hotel is under construction and there is no other places to see near by its the only spot .We need to come to town if we need anything .There are two kind of boats available one is stream boat another one is row boat . we took row boat so that we can go slowly and enjoy the nature ,we were 10 in numbers so we took 2 row boat and started our journey with life jacket .Since its a mangrove forest ,its full of mud(which is in paste like substance ) in few min it will pull us to death .Depth varies it depend upon the place at some place it was 4 feet and in some place it was 10 feet .Local people were engaged for peddling the boat because the area is huge about 2,800 acres full of mangroves and water so they do know the way to lead us back .Life Jacket is must !! We Started at 10 and we spent 2 hours in water ,at some time we were in open space after that we went inside in mangroves which was like entering into the cave !! we enjoyed a lot there .If you visit Pondicherry i m sure Pichavaran is a must visit destination !!
