Touring the Romanian Countryside

By Ingridd @cosytraveler

Today, we continue with our trip in Romania of last year. For the first part of this trip, we stayed in a place called Cluj. One of the owners of our hotel there was a very friendly woman who was very fluent in English and who recommended us a tour in the northwest of Romania. The region is known for its beautiful landscapes and for being completely unspoilt. For a detailed map, look here.

We started on very good roads and with very sunny weather. To make things even more perfect, there was a beautiful lake, where we had to stop and take pictures.

Afterwards, the landscape became more mountainous. The quality of the road started deteriorating and clouds came rolling in. Spring had clearly made its entrance, by the way; you can clearly see some of the blossoms on the pictures.

If I am not mistaken, these are the outskirts of a village called Marisel.

Driving around in a Romanian village is quite something. The main road was actually a dirt road, which forced Lars to drive about 10 kilometres an hour, much to the joy of playing school children. Prepare to share the road with any farm animal imaginable. Come to think of it, we did not encounter a lot of cars on this tour.

Although it all looks picturesque, Lars and I cannot help but wonder how easy or difficult life here is…

Anyway, in our next post we will share a video that we have made of this trip. Somehow, I ended up with a lot more video clips than pictures! If you want to make the same trip, it will take you more than 3 hours to cover 107 kilometres, mainly because of the bad condition of the roads. So, relax and enjoy the beautiful Romanian countryside!
