Top 5 Most Intimidating Types Of Books
This week’s topic was Top Ten Most Intimidating Books, but I changed it to types of books so I could make a shorter list of similar books that intimidate me. 1. Typically anything by Stephen King. His books are so long and I only enjoy about 60% of them, so I’m always a bit cautious. They are pretty long, so they take up a lot of time and I’m never sure I’ll like it enough for it to be worth the time spent reading. Ex: The Talisman by Stephen King
2. Russian Classics. The few Russian novels I’ve read have sounded awesome, but I didn’t enjoy them. I feel like there’s some sort of translation barrier. Or perhaps it’s just me. Ex: War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
3. Long series. There’s something intimidating about getting started on a series when you know that there are over 10 books in it. That’s a lot of time to devote and a lot of room for many things to change and tons of books to buy. There’s just something about it that bothers me most times. Ex: Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton
4. Romantic Classics. I don’t know that I’ve enjoyed any. So many people are fans of Jane Austen and William Shakespeare and I’m just.. not. I always want to read more of those “Top Books Everyone Should Read” books, but I never want to pick these up. They intimidate me because people love these books with all of their soul and I hate having to go against the grain time after time. It’s exhausting. I’m getting tired just thinking about reading and disliking these. Ex: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
5. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I’ve read this book. I love the story. However, I refuse to reread it because the size is seriously intimidating. And I really don’t know why I enjoy the story, as similar stories don’t interest me, so I’m afraid I’ll start a reread and end up realizing I never liked it in the first place.
