Ingredients

  • moong dal/toor dal - 1 cup
  • turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
  • hing or asafoetida - a generous pinch
  • onion - 1 finely chopped
  • tomato - 3 finely chopped
  • garlic - 10 cloves,finely chopped
  • green chilli - 2,slit
  • red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
  • coriander powder - 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds,cumin seeds,methi seeds ,1 red chilli- for tempering
  • ghee - 1/4 cup
  • salt - to taste
  • coriander leaves - finely chopped
Instructions
  1. pressure cook the moong dal with turmeric powder,hing and few drops of oil in pressure cooker till it cooked mushy.
  2. Heat ghee in a kadai and add mustard seeds,methi seeds and cumin seeds.1 dry red chilli.Once it splutters,add finely chopped garlic and slit green chilli to it and saute till garlic turns brown in medium flame.
  3. Add finely chopped onions to it and saute till it turns transparent.Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook till it get mushy.
  4. Add red chilli powder,coriander powder and enough salt for the recipe to it and saute it without browning the spices.
  5. Add little water to it and saute it.Add the cooked dal to it and adjust the consistency with enough water.
  6. cook it for 3 more minutes and add coriander leaves and then switch off the flame.
  7. drizzle some more ghee over it and serve.
