To Those Who Wait...

By Misslara16 @misslara

Random short story probably born out of my sleep deprived, exhausted state... Enjoy.
To those who wait...
17 year old Tolu wanted to have it now, she was used to throwing tantrums and getting what she wanted, this time it was different, her father wont budge because she had to learn to wait."You need to understand delayed gratification" he said to her calmly, "I will buy it, not just now" he would not give in to pressure. Tolu did not understand.
The pouting, the sulking, the childishness had to stop, "some times we want something we actually do not need or can't handle at the moment"; her father admonished. "I will just ask mum" she retorted slamming the door shut.
She got it what she wanted, she got her most Priced 2012 model Range Rover... and then she started to stay late out at night because she could drive herself home now and she didnt need any one working her nerves being a chaperone. But wait, she forgot, owning a car meant maintaining it, fueling it, the risk of a break down in the middle of nowhere it meant responsibility, such she was not ready for.
It was a thursday night it was a rainy one and at around 12 am Tolu headed home, a little bit tipsy, she got into her car and started toward home, she was 20 minutes away when she realised she had flat tire, what the blip she cursed under her breath, pulled over and reached for her phone trying to figure out who to call for help. suddenly a police car, sirens blaring pulled over, step out of the car maam he said polietly, she did, have you been drinking?
No..ooo Tolu stuttered, I just have a flat tire and im trying to fix it...  I will like you to take a breathalizer test he cut in, this time not so polite, he grabbed her and in a cold dark tone he said, we are alone here tonight arent we? he violated her...
Shattered she walked home, he had not only taken her, he took her car and everything she had on her. For a second she wished she was not alone that night, that would have meant not owning her own car and maybe getting home a little earlier...
Good things come to those who wait.
