Hi girlies,
As promised I am back with my haircare tips for maintaining my red hair. So many people have asked me in the past how do I prevent my hair from fading which is a problem for many red heads. I
have come up with a few very simple tips that work for me, and hopefully they will work for you too!
Ok so my first tip is definitely replacing your normal shampoo (and even your color protection shampoo) with Johnston's baby shampoo. If you have ever used Johnson's baby shampoo you will know it actually doesn't lather up like normal shampoos.
The reason for this, is the same reason it is amazing for keeping red hair color firmly in your hair and not down the plug hole, the inclusion of surfactants. Surfactants are used in all baby shampoos in replace of soap. This means it is not only gentle to the eyes but to the hair and prevents the loss of excessive hair color when washing.
NEVER use Head&Shoulders shampoo or conditioner as this acts like a stripping agent and will remove your color rapidly!
My second tip is the simplest of all yet so many people don't know about it. Wash your hair with luke-warm to cold water. If you are using boiling hot water, then you are encouraging the pores in your head, which contain your hair follicles, to open just like your skin. This encourages the hair color to come out a lot quicker than using cold water.
As obvious as this may seem, so many people forget not to wash their hair until 48hours after applying hair color. This stands for all hair colours and not just red. You are simply washing out the colourant before it gets a chance to set into your hair.
Using a heat protection spray is vital to prevent your red hair turning an orange burnt color. This is the exact heat protection serum I use (review to follow) , however any heat protection spray/serum will do. By using heat protection spray it will prevent your hair color from dulling and fading.
And there you have it girlies, some simple yet effective tips to help maintain your red hair color.
Have you ever used any of these tips?Have you any tips you would like to share? Is the upkeep on red hair too much for you to handle? Until next time girlies..LolaRose xx
