

Tiffin sambar recipe:
Star ingredients:Moong dal and coconut
Time:30 minutes
Serves:3

Ingredients:
3/4 cup moong dal
2 onions sliced
2 tomatoes chopped very fine
1 potato boiled and cubed
2 tablespoons grated coconut
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1/4 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
10-12 curry leaves
2 green chillies
Cilantro leaves
Salt
Oil
Grind to a paste:
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 tablespoon channa dal
1 1/2 tablespoons coriander seeds
3 dried red chillies
1 tablespoon grated coconut:
Fry channa dal,coriander seeds and dried red chillies in 3 teaspoons oil till golden.Grind this along with 1 tablespoon raw coconut.

1.Pressure cook moong dal till mushy.Once the pressure is released mash well and keep aside.
2.Heat a kadai/pan and add 3 teaspoons oil.Temper with mustard,fenugreek,green chillies,curry leaves.
3.Add the sliced onions and saute well.Add the tomatoes and saute till mushy.
4.Next add the ground spices and saute well till well coated.Add 1 1/2 cups of water.boiled cubed potatoes and bring to a boil.
5.Add the mashed dal,2 cups of water,salt and boil for 10 minutes.


1.If you are in short of time you can use sambar powder instead of ground spices.Just add coconut in the last step as mentioned above.
2.You can also include veggies like capsicum,carrot in this recipe.
