"A women who doesn't wear perfume has no future." Coco Chanel
Okay, that was a bit of a strong opinion from Gabrielle Chanel, but, I love perfumes, they are my favorite accessories. I love them more than shoes!! So now you can understand my obsession with them!! If you guys remember, I was swooning about this advert I saw on YouTube on Chanel's Coco Noir about 2-3 months back. So my hubby, the darling that he is, bought me this as a surprise gift. This was more like a belated anniversary gift for me from him! Although unintentionally, (he has no idea about the "importance" of changing a fragrance according to climate :P), hubby dear bought a perfume that perfectly fits into my autumn/winter perfume collection.
"Magnetic and uncompromising, COCO NOIR reveals a black that is intimate, seductive and intensely brilliant. Striking top notes of Grapefruit and Bergamot accentuate the floral accord, with Rose and Jasmine, while Indonesian Patchouli and Sandalwood notes add warmth."
"Black is like nothing else. It’s radical, exceptional and fascinating. Its intense character and enigmatic elegance hold a promise of the unexpected. From this deep, rich black emerges a unique olfactory experience . A Luminous Oriental.A fascinating, incredibly seductive presence emerges, redefining all codes. COCO NOIR. THROUGH BLACK… LIGHT REVEALED"

So onto the perfume. First, the bottle, absolutely gorgeous! Yes it is the classic flacon of Chanel, rectangular box design glass bottle. This one of course is black. The designers at Chanel described the bottle as a great nocturnal Baroque, and I like the sound of it. :)
I love the gold+black combination, very classic, very sexy. What I like about the black glass bottle is that it helps preserve perfume from sunlight or even simple light, which are bad for the longevity of fragrances.
Top NotesGrapefruit, Bergamot
Middle NotesRose, Jasmine, Indonesian Patchouli, Narsicuss, Geranium
Base NotesSandalwood, Brazilian Tonka Bean, White Musk, Vanilla, Olibanum
Now to the smell...well an easy to the point explanation would be that Coco Noir is a love child of Coco Mademoiselle and Chanel Coco. But poor thing lacks the intensity and longevity of both. Don't get me wrong, I love how it smells, but it is not that intense or deep nor does it last long on me.
This comes as a let down as the perfume is named "Noir", which is suggestive of a strong, night-time scent with a statutory warning of "spray sparingly".
It is a beautiful scent which comes in a treasure of a bottle. The name sure is deceptive. I would not consider it a night time scent. I see myself wearing it as a daytime scent during autumn winter. I wouldn't be surprised if someone even wears it during spring/summer.
I just wish it lasted longer on me. I guess I just need to moisturize more :P
